The original Front Mission 2 was a flawed game—long-winded, tedious, and lacking in balance. Multiple re-releases have existed, but none could address the core issues to elevate the game to a higher level. Very sadly, this remake still took the most rigid and inflexible approach: no gameplay changes, no QoL improvements—just the exact same game from more than 20 years ago, with slightly modernised graphics and a bunch of newly introduced glitches and bugs.

While the dev has certainly shown initiative and passion in remaking a beloved series, their results so far are not convincing at all. Quality issues plagued the Front Mission 1st remake; same thing happened again in the Front Mission 2 remake; and it seems destined to happen for another time in the future Front Mission 3 remake. This trend is really disheartening, frustrating and embarrassing.

Perhaps a key lesson from the repeated disastrous remake releases is that, even with the heart in the right place, successful remake titles in the end of the day, still require solid and tangible input: technical capability, resources, coordination and support from original staff. In its current state and direction, this series is hardly any better off than simply being left abandoned. Can we just leave the good stuff alone in our memories please?
