Update includes fixes for:

• The crash that was happening in Dennis' office at night
  
• Issues with music volume resetting
  
• Issues with getting stuck after using the bicycle
  
• The new hair has been set as default (The old hair was causing crashes on computers)

I have an update for those experiencing crashes—specifically the ones happening early in the game!


I have updated the hair for each of the characters so they should no longer cause problems. One of the character's hair—Henry—was more complicated, and I'm still working on it, but I have temporary hair for him in the new build until I can figure out something better.

Please follow the steps below to access the new build. I will eventually make that build available as the default on Steam once I have Henry's hair figured out, but I wanted to allow people to play while I continue to work on it!

•Completely exit out of Steam
•Open your steam library
•Right click on Alex Hill: Whispers at White Oak Inn
•Open "Properties"
•Click on "Betas"
•Under "Beta Participation" click on the drop down menu and choose "crash_update Crash Build"
•Start your game

Edit: The default game build is no longer experiencing these crashes. Disregard the above instructions.

A few small changes in this last patch.
•Some code was cleaned up to try to help anyone getting stuck at the curiosity shop.
•The couple instances where the player was not able to click on the screen to move forward or backwards are now fixed.
•An accessibility feature for those with shaky hands having trouble with the hack puzzle has been added. To turn it on go to the "Options" menu and click the box for "Arthritis Accessibility".

A few bugs that I know about and am still working on:
•The volume level for music is re-setting during the game.
•A few people have had their task list disappear
•A few people have had characters reappear after they should be gone

I will also be adding some more tasks to the task list and smoothing out some gameplay flow to help those getting stuck.

Although the last patch fixed the crash issue for a bunch of people, there were still some people having issues with the game crashing on them. After a week of testing and debugging I've finally figured it out! It's the hair—the character's hair has been causing the issues.

I'll have another update soon to let you know how I'm moving forward. I just wanted to let everyone know that I finally figured it out—it's the hair!!

There is a new patch uploaded fixing the crashes that were happening on some computers as well as a few other bugs. The game will need to update in Steam for it to be in effect, and players may need to update their graphics drivers. Thank you everyone for your patience.

A few people have reported blurry backgrounds after the first patch. There seems to be a settings issue transitioning over. Clicking the "auto-detect" graphics settings under the options menu resolves this problem.

Other bugs fixed in this patch:

•If the music setting was turned down it would reset after some conversations
•After night transitions the player was not able to move around
•A black line would show up on a puzzle for some players
•For Macs there was a white screen during some cut scenes

Crash update!!

We have a new build of the game that seems to be stable, but we need to test it on as many computers as possible before making it public. If you are willing to help test it, drop into the Alex Hill Mystery Discord channel and read the latest announcement!

I have an update on the crashing issue!

The Good News: Some of it has been fixed.

The Bad News: Some of it has not.

But thanks to some playtesting from my brother-in-law and some help from players letting me know about their issues, I now know what the root cause is and can tackle the issue!!

I just uploaded a patch. This should stop the game from crashing on startup. You will notice a new screen when you start the game. It will ask if you want to compile shaders. If you have not had any issues click "compile" If you have had issues with crashing click "Skip".

•The issue with crashing when clicking on the case file to start the case should be resolved. If anyone still has issues please let me know!

•The issue with crashing during the first conversation with Concilio HAS NOT been resolved, but I now know what the issue is and will be fixing it as fast as I can. Unfortunately it takes some time to figure out and re-package my game so I appreciate everyone's patience with this.

There is a temporary fix you can use to reduce issues for now:

Go to Steam Library.
Right Click on Alex Hill in the Library list.
Select Properties in the menu.
In the General tab there is a field for launch options.
In the box type "-dx11" without the quotes.
Close the options and try running the game.

Some people have experienced crashes on PC when trying to open or play the first level of the game. I am currently working on fix to resolve it. I plan on having an update either tonight or tomorrow to resolve this. Thank you for all of your support and patience! 💕

I recently updated the demo, but there seems to be some issues popping up with the characters and starting the case. I am deactivating the demo until I can get it fixed!
