I'd be interested to know how to overcome this?
I have had a couple of goes and don't really see a viable route - you don't even get a turn before Germany takes most of your territory, knocks out most of your units, and normally is adjacent to Warsaw with a tank corps or two. Your infantry is barely up to acting as a speed bump to the German infantry, let alone the armor that comes along - I mean, you don't even get chance to assign the two (quite nice level for a small country) commanders you have as Poland before most of the army is dead because of this.
If you had a couple of turns before Germany declares war there would be a few more options, like cheesing it by playing UK/France (assuming that doesn't disable the achievement anyway) as well as Poland and getting some units in the right places to help out (landing in Danzig maybe), as it is you can send over Furious and Bearn in time to airstrike things a couple of hexes north-northwest of Warsaw (if occupied), but that isn't anywhere close to enough to make a difference. You can board some assault ships or sea transports with France or Britain, but they won't be able to land until the second turn, i.e. too late. You could try and distract the attackers by landing GB/French planes in Polish territory, but they aren't in range to do it 1st turn, so again no help. Most of these tactics would only stretch out Poland to turn 3 anyway even if you could do them.
Research and even production is too slow to matter, even if you had some PP. Diplomacy can't help that I can see (France can get some of the smaller players nearby alliance entry chance on turn 1, but even if you luck out and someone like Denmark/Baltic States joins up immediately it seems unlikely all the units in Polish territory are going to turn away while adjacent to Warsaw).
You could play the first German turn over and over in new game after new game and maybe eventually he will get unlucky enough to give you a chance, but that seems like it would take an awful long time to get a meaningfully better start given how stacked the odds are.
I have made it to turn 3 once now - the German attack on turn 1 left a hex open behind the attacking units, so I rebased the Polish Air Force into that hole which caused one of the Panzers to turn around to kill it, the other Panzer killed the army on Warsaw, but there was nothing else in range to invade, so I could move the corps from the Russian front onto Warsaw...which then died to a Panzer and the army from Koenigsburg (and no doubt the other Panzer could have got involved again). But maybe waiting for this situation plus having some amphibious landings from GB/France, and maybe sacrifice some more (GB/French) air units to distract the attackers in the next turns might be enough? Still seems fairly slim though as by this point Poland has run out of even nominal defenders, and even if some GB/French units get into the area, they are still weaker than the Germans at this point in the war.
PS btw I'm pretty sure achievements dont unlock on levels less than normal
And Mighty Mutilator; Congrats! -I took a peek at your Achievements and it seems you cracked it! ...this engagement continues to whoop my a$$!, so if you could offer any tips I'm sure those who read this thread (including me!) would be appreciative!
In the meantime Happy Gaming and Happy New Year!
The game starts with German turn; they wipe out everything I have on their first (pre-game) turn.
I start my game with 0 troops and 0 funds to buy anything.
On the German 2nd turn I lose.
So much strategic war in Europe.
Well i got the achivement preasure while playing on (veary easy) and enemy on (veary hard) so not sure about you need to play normal. Will check this further doh
Nope dont work for me :( iam getting my smelly button kicked :( tried for hours now, nothing works. Is it random?
Sold all other armies 1airplane 1infantary and keept the one in Warzaw and upgraded it to army. after turn 3 DEAD :(
Yeah its funny actually, I think I got the King's City achievement on very easy in the 1939 scenario mucking around as USSR offline, so you might be right. I've had others denied because of difficulty though.
If I have anything helpful for Poland's fate it is that the dev's strategy does work. I have done it a couple of times and got to turn 6 so don't give up. Good Luck
If you want to know how i did it. ( Normal Diffaculty)
Big time spoiler ***** You need a lot of luck in the rolls so keep trying.
1.Rebase the plane NW of Warsaw in the open spot and Then disband everything (including the plane you just moved) but the 2 ships and the 1 infantry south east of Warsaw and the infantry inside Warsaw. 2. move infanrty SE up to Warsaw NE to block Armor that comes around the river. I also moved the cruiser into port with the submarine. 3. During your first turn purchase 1 infantry corp. 4. Make infantry unit in Warsaw a Army and assign a commander. 5. If you survive to the next turn deploy new infantry exactly south of Warsaw and assign the other commander. 6. Disband the ships also after they are kicked out of harbor..With a little luck you can make it through the winter and get acheivment.
All of what is said is true. I even tried at first taking more than one country. But in the end i did succeed with just Poland alone.
