I've been going through this dilemna for a long time too. For a very long time.
Unfortunately, there is NOTHING else like SOMA.
It also depends what you enjoyed about SOMA. The story is unique, but if you are also looking for another underwater-themed game that deals with some form of psychological "trauma", I would recommend :
https://store.steampowered.com/app/366870/Narcosis/
If you want something else slightly "horror-like", as a walking simulator. Try this one :
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1012840/Moons_of_Madness/
And I also really enjoyed this Lovecraftian-inspired game :
https://store.steampowered.com/app/313780/Conarium/
They all fall into a similar category as SOMA, "walking-simulators", very heavy focus on the atmosphere itself, lite-horror, and a story with some basic puzzles.
But, let's get one thing clear. There are no other games like SOMA. I know exactly the feeling you're having. Just put SOMA away, and play it again in a year. It's torture to try and find something similar.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Amazing, truly a defining game of it's time.)
Amnesia: Rebirth (Hit or miss, but it has references to TDD and is referenced slightly in Bunker so it's worth it for lore junkies. I enjoyed it.)
Amnesia: Bunker (PHENOMENAL)
SOMA (Seriously just play it.)
Penumbra: Overture (Dated, but fascinating and amazing atmosphere)
Penumbra: Black Plague
Penumbra: Requiem
just play dark descent and bunker
I'd ignore this persons suggestion, it's not really objective or accurate. It's one thing to not like the protagonist or pregnancy element, but that's such a blatant misrepresentation of how it actually fits into the game.
