SMALL DELAY AND UPCOMING EVENTS!

Hey everyone!

Been a bit since I was able to post a devlog or work on the game at all! The reason for that is very simple;

I bought a house.

It's not a big house or a new house, but it's my house and I have to renovate it. HAVE to. Not optional.
As such, a lot of my spare time (read: all) has been spent ripping out the insides of this new home in order to get it live-in ready in the next four months when my apartment lease runs out!

For that reason I have temporarily suspended work on Andy Blast and other projects so I can concentrate on this time sensitive thing, but not to worry the game is still on track for a release probably Q4 of 2025 (or Q1 2026).

However, I've not completely forgotten the game and have made sure to enter it into the Zombies Vs Vampires fest as the game heavily features Zombies in nearly every level! So expect to see that coming up in may.

Anyway, don't lose heart and keep that game up there on your wishlists and know that I'm just one guy with a keyboard and mouse trying to make something tiny to make a mark on the world, but to do that I also have to have a place in the world to make that mark from and that is currently taking the priority!

Andy Blast Devlog 1/25/25

Due to my schedule I think there's a high chance my "Friday" Devlog is just going to end up being an "Early Saturday Morning" Devlog, but since we got rid of the cartoons you have to have something to look forward to, right? Anyway, I've been on a bit of a roll with the game and have a lot of minor, but major things on the list of updates! Mostly it's art updates! Lots of art updates which have made the game look MUCH better and more professional than before! Check them out!

Updated Andy's colors to remove the black outline around him. Now he seems more "Amiga" like in design
Did the same thing to the Zombies. They're softer, but they look good.
Added some shading to the cultists. Now they look better!
Altered the smoke around the shotgun blast so it looks like the blast is IN the smoke not ON the smoke.
Added some more details to the Ghost to make them "Pop?"
Updated Jeanette's art to look WAY better than the original!
Updated and animated the Ghoul's idle-walking animation. Now he's not as stiff looking.
Added a second secret door to level 4. May edit this more in the future...
Converted "SlamFiring" to a super move. Now you can only slamfire when you have 8 shells instead of whenever
Added shadows to the following:
Gibs
Expelled Shotgun Shells
Score popups
Every finished level 1-7
Updated some of the screenshots on the Steam page to reflect MOST of the new art.

Be sure to keep coming back for more updates! Hopefully soon I'll be able to say I have another level done! Soooo close to finishing them all up and with the new art they're going to be fantastic!

Andy Blast Devlog 1/12/25

First Devlog of the year... and it's late! Turns out I got my head wrapped up in some personal stuff and with working overnight I forget what day it is. Even now, I keep thinking it's Saturday, but nope, it's Sunday. I don't even KNOW where Friday went?
The bonus is, that in what spare time I was using these last couple weeks to work on Andy Blast I got a LOT of things done! Most of it is housekeeping as I am still in that "avoiding new art and levels" stage of procrastination, but it was all important and some of it came from more player feedback! (Really, if you play the demo ALL feedback is welcome to try and make the game better.) So here's a list of all the things I've done since the last Devlog:

Updated the Itch demo to the same one as on Steam
Fixed a bug in the Steam/Itch demo for the keyboard layout screen to show layout properly
Following changes are NOT in the newly uploaded DEMO:
Changed some internal timing code so V-Sync is no longer a stringent requirement
Due to the above change the game can be run correctly on a VR headset if desired, still in 2D though
Updated the controls menu:
Joystick can now be toggled independent of the keyboard layout
Joystick and keyboard controls are both always shown regardless of which is selected
Game should show you an "N/A" if joystick is not detected and default to keyboard
Keyboard is now "always on" in game with the selected control scheme regardless of Joystick status
Added (joystick) tutorial indicators on the first level so it's easier to know what buttons do what
Replaced the "SpeedRun" option with a "Tutorials" option to disable tutorials
Decided to not move forward with Speedrun tracking as LiveSplit would be more accurate and works just fine
Limited max lives to 9
Added a lives counter under the ammo counter for easy identification of lives left
Skeletons now have randomly selected skulls to add variety to them
Updated the Skeleton Walk cycle animation and arm swing animation to be more fluid

That's all for now, but I'll hopefully be more on the ball in the coming weeks! If I'm not it's because big things are happening in my world and sometimes I have to pause my gamedev!

Bats, hitboxes, and cultists

I had okay fun with level 1 in the demo. Level 2 though, just too frustrating. I can't hit bats half the time, even if my muzzle fire clips through them. And the knives from the cultists are way too numerous and fast. I wish I could duck lol. Seems fine otherwise. Maybe the controls are a tad too slippery/sensitive....
