Can one character do everything? Or will I need Alts?
Are the characters based on classes or can you learn everything on one character?

Both! Skills are all available to all characters, but at a certain point you will pick one of three "alignments" for combat.

they have 3 "classes (they call them factions)" but they don't do crap all. other than that everything can be done on one character.

So far the only restriction classes have are what gear they can equip - I.E a Cryoknight can't equip weapons or armour that the Guardian or Hammermage can. That's planned to change in the future, maybe, but with penalties or something for equipping off-faction gear. Presumably. Maybe they'll change their mind.

Everything else in the game thus far can be done on a single character.
