Goodbye
What a joke of a game, right? Is this all a joke?

It was supposed to be fun. It was riding high on the success of Runescape's creator.

I said it in the first week that this game is insanely repetitive, and you feel it. Even though lots of games are very repetitive, this one specifically makes you FEEL the mundane tasks you're forced to do to level up.

The scaling of EXP is so low, and if you aren't always min/maxing every single action then you're not making any progress. And even if you min/max everything you end up on one screen trying to kill 10,000 of the same exact mob with almost no change in loot drops. What a mind-numbing, boring, empty game.

"It's early access", "leave them alone", "you don't know anything about how these kinds of games work" - Cope masters with no substance to their arguments.

Nothing about this game is fun after you realize that you're wasting your life playing. This isn't going to get popular, it's not going to "blow up" and go viral, it's not going to grow. GG

How far did you get? (your levels)

My highest being Combat at 179, Woodcutter at 42, Carpenter at 33, Fisherman 22, Forager 21.

I have over 2400 hours in New World, and I couldn't even make it 100 in Brighter Shores.

I understand what longevity in games means, and I understand I could've paid more money and had access to some more skills and areas, but this game offers no reason to give more time to it than I already have.

I played next to people who were top 5 on the combat leaderboard, and we were all doing the same thing....but they were hundreds of levels ahead of me so the game makes you come back around to low level mobs that they "evolve" to match your combat level, which is heavily recycling content throughout all levels of the game....paid and unpaid.

People who pay $5/month are doing the same exact thing that F2P players are, and it takes forever, and those people admit that it takes forever and it's the same thing over and over.
Yeah fair to say you gave it a good shot.

Did you play Runescape tho that's my question? Because if you had you should have had a better idea what this game would be like.

With regards to your point about going back to old areas to fight the new "skins" of various monsters. I can understand your point here. At first I too thought it was strange/lazy. But after a little reflection I can see 2 reasons why they might have gone this route.

1 - It takes time to create big open, explorable worlds. Runescape had this - many areas to go to fight different enemies. They also had stronger versions of the same old enemies but they were in different areas. Doing it this way gives them time to develop other areas/content. So maybe in the future when the world is bigger, they may do away with this mechanic and remove the other 'skins" or possibly move them around to different areas.

2 - Having people go back to old areas to fight stronger 'skins" of old enemies is a form of recycling content ( such as areas, which I think you touched on) but it also means that there are ideally always other players to be seen where you are, no matter where you are and what level you are.

This can be important for MMOS that have been around a while and have a big map/many places, you spread the players out too much. This can put new players off (and even the long timers) as the world seems "dead" to them and can give the false impression that the game is dead. Maybe this is another part of the reason they went this route, especially for early access as of course they player base will be small for a while.

"People who pay $5/month are doing the same exact thing that F2P players are, and it takes forever, and those people admit that it takes forever and it's the same thing over and over"

A part of this is because of the "sandbox" nature of the game. We choose what content to do and when. So of course you may see high lvl players doing things you are. They may decide to ignore a certain skill or skills until much later. Thus they will need to go back to those old areas again to do those.

I am not trying to shoot your opinions down or say they are "wrong" or anything. It sucks that this game is not what you were hoping for and dislike it this much a this point. I hope you do find the right game for you tho. :)

Unironically you have experienced everything that games has to offer. Maybe expect for ep3 and ep4, but its the same deal and after 15 hours you seen it all.

You have good points, and you're very kind. Thank you

So you knew it would be a chore within the first week, spent nearly 50 hours playing, never paid a cent, and yet still felt invested enough to leave a post about it. Literally thousands have just… quietly left the game like a normal person. This is the equivalent of posting pics of your dinner on social media.

I get it. You feel like you wasted your time. Maybe you've convinced yourself leaving a post will provide feedback and justify the time you spent playing. Sorry, you’re not that special. Nothing you’ve said here hasn’t already been brought up dozens of times by players with hundreds more hours played than you. You wasted your time, for nothing.

Best part is, this game is just as much as waste of time as New World. You’re not really learning anything, not developing any transferable skills to real life. For the vast majority of games out there, nothing you do matters. It’s all just a way to waste time. If you didn’t enjoy it, that’s fine. I’m sure you’ll find enjoyment elsewhere. I just wish your ego didn’t compel you to announce your departure.

As you can also see @OP. The player base isn't healthy either.

I took this game from 302 players to 301.....lol

Some dedicated players here who somehow haven't found a better game to play.
It is really sad to see yet another OG person of the history of gaming to hit rock bottom like this. It realy really is very sad for this person. How can they do such bad things when they could have done so much better???? Painful to watch as he kills his own rep.

How has "he" (I assume you mean Andrew) hit rock bottom? I mean the game is pretty much the same as what Runescape was at this point in time after release. You can't expect the game to launch with all the bells & whistles that RS had years after release surly?

Now we could talk about the monetization part of the game. At this point with Runescape, membership was not a thing yet and yes, players had a LOT more content to do. Then when memberships came they got access to a whole LOT more content.

However, we may forget a couple of things here:

1 - We had to put up with ads in the game browser before memberships (and free players had to continue to do so if they did not get membership), so Andrew was making revenue that way. Not so here, not allowed in Steam (I think?) and even if it was, what a nightmare that would be.

2 - Any money that Fen does make from this game at this point, Valve gets a share of it (about 30% I think?). Something just to take in to consideration.

We could talk about the amount of content there is for memberships at this point. I expect more will come of course so I really wont go into that here.
