Sadly, COTD is dead and from the looks of how GW is having a fit right now I don't think this is a good time to be a warhammer fan.
The CoTD community is small and mostly friends, but there is even a tournament about to start. Just in the span of a few years there was something like 7 tournaments. I've been in 4 I think. The Discords still go, slowly, but the base group isn't going to disappear any time soon. Maybe that classifies as dead to some people, but when you're in it you'd disagree.
When Necromunda was new and relevant I tried to host some tournaments. It failed because of people. Though pick up games were easy to get for awhile. Unfortunately the movement was totally stupid distances, but I think everything else about the game was good. They definitely fixed some of the issues Mordheim had, such as obstacles... i can't remember what else. Even I haven't played it for awhile.
A sequel being like Mordheim with the improvements of Necromunda would be amazing. I don't think that will happen though, as Necromunda didn't go well. I hope to be surprised though, even if it's just adding dlc to the CoTD we got now.
It had potential, but as a single player game it has failed due to their AI.
I liked how they did the sectors thing. That it reset after so many missions. Then you got new gangs that had gear again. Before then you got to actually see injuries and gangs running out of weapons because you looted them so many times.
Like I said, they listened to what Mordheim people wanted and put some of that in there. 4 way matches, jumping over the can on the floor, etc. Shame it went the way it did.
I think Mordheim is decent AI if it weren't for guys getting stuck up high all the time.
I can’t get this game out of my mind, and keep coming back to it. It’s absolutely brilliant. I want more!!!!
It does have a cult following and really up to Games Workshop on that front. You might have better luck writing to them.
I go to the CDC each year, I do see they have podcasts discussing it, but these games cost a lot to make, not as much as 10 years ago, with all the advances in engines and AI generators, developers can do wonders today, but whether its Rogue, can they expand from the board game, or are they simply restricted in their loose interpretation of it.
Another developer I would doubt you would see this in this manner, (Third Person), you could have more a traditional isometric, or looking like some Board Game which I think would be a massive mistake.
Rogue had another shot with Necro, which to me despite its nice beauty, made even more mistakes in its programming.
A game is only as good as the people doing it and I do think Rogue has passionate people, but the business can be very brutal to developers.
There is a battle between the traditional way of creating and delivering games VS the endless revenue stream of gacha as the DLC way Rogue did this on their games was not well received.
All I will say is you never know, for this could be simply a one and done, which would be a terrible shame, but Games Workshop wants their brands done. They make nothing if the brand of Mordheim just sits there.
Outstanding game that put the player into the action, something the table top cannot do.
We will see.
This. This, this, this, this.
Hell, could even get out of Mordheim since the tabletop has expansions for that. Or it could even deal with Mordheim's canonical destruction by the Emperor, with your warband and benefactors scrambling to escape with as much stuff as possible.
Shame the devs seem to be focused on a Souls-like instead (No offense but you're a few years late to that particular party, it's an oversaturated genre and it's gonna be extremely hard to stand out).
