On your freighter you also have a second option that is sometimes even easier: up to six of your ships will be displayed in the docking bay, and jumping in any ship will make that one your active ship. If you have more than six ships, and the one you want isn't one of the displayed ones, you will need to use the x-menu to swap them out; doing that will replace your current active ship in the docking bay with the one you summoned out of the void (so if you want to control which ships are displayed for RP reasons, you can do that, although it can be tedious).
So being able to do it like space stations or the anomaly would be how the way to go as long as there isn't any easier way to transfer things between to ships directly.
I understand if you're way back in the freighter & are moving inventories between ships or changing out modules, that this could be convenient. That means I understand why someone might want it, not that I agree with you even in the slightest.
I have never had an experience where that was the case.
Hmm. Now that I have tested exactly the scenario you describe here, I see what you mean - you cannot use the x-menu to switch to a ship that is already visible in the docking bay. However, in over a thousand hours in this game, I don't recall ever seeing that message ("already docked") before, and I am certain that I have done exactly what is now blocked at some point in the past. Especially when fixing a bunch of crashed ships at once, if I run out of something, I'll go up to the freighter base where the refiners are to make more chromatic metal or whatever, and apply the fixes to several ships from upstairs.
That makes me suspect that something has changed, and that it did used to work the way you would like at some point in the past. I know there have been a number of bug reports about people losing the wrong ship when scrapping, or getting two ships mashed together (appearance from one, tech from a different one and such), so if Hello Games fixed that, but had to make switching ships less convenient, it might not be easy to reimplement. There also is (or maybe was) a longstanding quirk/bug where sometimes the only ship visible in the docking bay would be your active ship, and in that case the block would never matter.
