Cockpit Simulation
Is this the kind of game where youi can (if you choose) view flying from inside the cockpit? Basically like a flight sim, or is it external view of your ship only?

1st and 3rd person available, switchable through the quick menu.

also note that flying is arcade style... it is very easy... especially when using a controller...

3-4 instruments will show, not a flight sim

Cool thx. I have a VKB HOTAS. Will I be able to use that do you think?

HOTAS is waaaaay overkill... engine power is on or off... no in between... same with reverse when flying in space... plus roll and yaw are linked when turning while flying...

with that said, some have figured out a way to kludge HOTAS in but it is not pretty or for the faint of heart...

again, controller is the easiest... left stick for movement, right stick for look, right trigger for thrust, left trigger for brake, etc... there's more settings for each of the modes you may be in... modes as in "on foot", "flying", in "exocraft", plus the quick menus and other things... here's a link to the wiki so you can see the default controls for keyboard+mouse, PS controllers, and XBox controllers...

So far it 'works' for a little bit using x360ce. I tried customizing it for flying the ship only but it breaks on me activating other game functions after a bit.

I use a Nintendo pro controller as I also play on the switch and slide my VKB stick out of reach :(

I have used M/KB since launch and it works fine for flying the ship. As noted, it is pretty basic and the ship is mainly just a way to travel to planets. This is not a space fighter game.

Ok. Nice thx for all the info. Much appreciated.

Imo, KB/mouse, else Controller, are much more viable options than a HOTAS.

NMS's flight controls are FAR too basic/minimalist... that I'd think that using a HOTAS would actually be an obstacle to enjoying the game.

Well really don't have a choice as my HOTAS is integrated into my system

This game would benefit from HOTAS. There is customization and upgrading of ships and also, interesting events that require space combat. :steamthis:

That’s what it’s like for me in Elite Dangerous, so I was hoping No Man’s Sky would be the same.
