Depth
The developers really should've invested in a singleplayer title...
Depth was basically the brainchild of the dude who made Killing Floor, who got really bored of multiplayer games because they started getting turned into microtransaction-fests and statistics-balanced nonsense. (Guess what happened to Killing Floor and Depth?).

Depth still has graphics that hold up, especially for a water-themed game.

They've had 10 whole years to develop something, ANYTHING new and interesting annnnnnnnnnnd nadda.

Imagine if ID software made doom without a campaign, then sat around for 10 years doing nothing, you'd point and laugh at them for wasted potential, right?

Except they made two further games - Dead Hunger and Last Tide.

And although I owe neither and have played neither Dead Hunger sold a lot of games and was apparently a good game to play - until, allegedly, Chinese players logged on all servers then refused to play with non Chinese speakers and hackers launched denial of service attacks against the game.

Dead Hunger launched among the first wave of Battle Royale games - and didn't make it.

The biggest problem that developers have is their own customers - that is the roughly 5% who cheat, abuse other players, don't engage properly with the game, or deliberately wreck things.

That does give me a good idea.

How close is Dead Hunger to being playable solo ? Good quality bots could get rid of all the multiplayer issues - which could have also been minimised by banning Chinese players from non Chinese servers. So if the game returned with a good quality solo game people might buy it. It died very quickly in its lifetime.

I have lived through nearly 40 years of gaming and virtually none of the first generation of studios exist now - and those that do like Atari, Nintendo, and Sony were supported by creating hardware too. Consistently releasing successful games is something that very few studios are able to achieve.

You could laugh, not all humans have great empathy, but like the one hit wonders of the pop world better to have released one great game than never to have created anything at all.

Don't need to. They're obviously not great at all.

So "complete and utter crap" is a review based on literally zero game time.

If you ever want to avoid jury service I'll support you.

How convenient you suggest the only way I can make judgement over media is to buy it, lmao.
What's the point of making anything good, if you can censor anyone who says it's bad if they haven't bought it?
They still aren't good games, that's just how it is.
Wasnt madfe by the same studio, but I think it was made by guys leaving this studio, who made Maneater, which imho is a pretty good fun and solid single player version of this cvoncept.

The dude who made Killing Floor/Depth left to make Maneater, but hilariously the same company that basically stole Killing Floor from him, stole Maneater and left it in a terrible state as well.

It's hilarious.

Wait lol, thats some drama right there haha!

But I dont think Maneater was left in bad state, I played it last year myself and I think it was perfectly functional and a fun game, not in a terrible state at all. Whats so "terrible state " in that?

Didn't get it's intended second DLC due to not-high-enough sales, combat is comically simple and generally it fails mechanically compared to older games like Jaws Unleashed.
Can't even target limbs of enemies.

Both games servers have been shut down and pulled from Steam. That's how "utter crap" they both were. Don't ride the dev's ♥♥♥♥♥ just because you still fanboy over this dead game as well.

From the Chuckle Brothers who brought you reviews without ever having played the games two more fallacies: -

1) The games failed because they were bad. Nonsense. Gaming is littered with great games that just didn't find a niche and died inadequately lauded. What Culture does regular videos on this very topic. Commercial failure may be indicative of a poor quality game but it's a long way short of probative.
2) The games were pulled because they were commercial failures. Last Tide probably - never got out of Early Access. But Dread Hunger apparently sold more than Depth. The problems there were criminal gangs launching denial of service attacks and intolerance in its player base. The costs of fighting off the bad guys began to eclipse the income from the game.

Back down under your bridge, boys.
