Our team’s focus remains firmly on releasing Episodes 2-5 as quickly and in as high-quality a state as possible, but if the charms go well, we’ll be able to look at producing a greater variety of merchandise for of the Devil.

• Compressed the size (in memory) of some outlier sprites and textures.

• Fixed an issue where the Enter/Return key could be used to choose the first available choice.
  
• Adjusted the description for, and the dialogue surrounding the introduction of, a key piece of evidence during the crime scene investigation in Episode 1.
  
• Added a failsafe that will award the Episode 1 Highroller Exclusive Charm on Startup if the player has the “Cutthroat Industry” Achievement but the charm had previously failed to unlock properly.
  
• Fixed an issue where the game may have waited for additional input in between choosing to CALL on a line of dialogue and displaying the cards you have to choose from.

• Addressed a variety of grammar and spelling errors.

• Fixed an issue where the cost to unlock the Rose Gold phone case color was listed as 5 instead of 20.

• Reduced the length of helper text on certain choice Cards to improve readability.
  
• Fixed an issue where the “Court is in session” reminder text preventing players from loading a save while in the courtroom could be seen on a Highroller save while playing on a non-highroller save under certain circumstances.

• Adjusted the brightness of the Court Lobby at different times of day.
  
• Fixed an issue where certain 3D objects in the courtroom were clipping unintentionally.

Thank you to all of our players since launch - your support means everything to us. We wanted to provide a quick "State of the Game" to commemorate this milestone, answer some FAQs, and provide some insight on the path forward for "of the Devil"!


We are a totally self-funded, self-published studio of only 4 people - including just a single writer and a single illustrator. Most of the team is part-time!

We have adopted an episodic model as the fastest way to get content to our players given our team structure. Each episode will be roughly the same playlength as Episode 1, and playable as a standalone story while advancing the overall plotline.


In short - as soon as we can!

We can tell you that Episodes 2, 3, 4 and 5 are fully written- each of them with a word count greater than Episode 1. And while you can expect variations on the mechanics introduced so far, all core programming and UI elements are already complete.


Assets! The team has a ton of work ahead to craft character sprites and CGs, background scenes, 3D models and miscellaneous illustrations. This is our focus at the moment!

Scripting! Directorial and gameplay scripting is an enormous part of the player experience.

Playtesting & Polish! Even at our studio's size we are absolutely determined to deliver a smooth and performant gameplay experience to our players. This includes supporting Steam Deck and controller support and further performance tuning beyond patch 1.05.

Episode 2 is on track for a release this year (2025).

You can definitely expect to see new tracks introduced over the course of the game. As our music assets are a combination of custom-crafted material and purchased tracks, formalizing a soundtrack to share outside the game, while something we're pursuing, is a bit tricky. At a minimum, we expect to have a music player mode in-game in future episodes!


Depending on what we hear from our fans and potential players, we're definitely interested in pursuing this, backseat to actual episode production. If you have an opinion, please let us know. For the foreseeable future, however, Steam will be the only way to purchase “of the Devil.”


We'd love to share our game with a broader audience. Our game's voice and tone is also a large part of what we think makes it special. We have the groundwork laid for translation, but will need additional funding and market research before pursuing it further.


At the moment, we're focused on core asset creation. Similar to translation, additional resources are needed before voice acting could be in reach for our studio.

Patch 1.05 is here! In addition to a handful of fixes, corrections, and quality of life features, we’re excited to announce that we’ve also made additions that should improve performance and optimization across a variety of player setups!

If you’re curious about what’s new in Patch 1.05:

of the Devil no longer restricts the list of resolutions you can choose from- you’re free to select any resolution that your monitor supports. Please note that choosing a resolution listed in red is not recommended as it may result in small presentation issues.

of the Devil has a new feature in the Settings menu that allows you to select a Frames-per-Second number to target. If you’re playing on an older computer, running on a battery, or just more interested in fidelity than framerate, you can set it to 30 FPS for longer battery life (and more quiet PC fans) or even as low as 24 FPS for a more “cinematic” feel.

You can also set the FPS target to try and always match your monitor’s refresh rate, or you can choose to play with your framerate entirely uncapped, but these options are recommended only for higher spec machines.

• Significantly reduced memory usage on start up, reducing the time it takes for the game to boot up.
  
• Significantly reduced the average and maximum memory usage in-game, reducing the risk of crashes and improving performance on computers with less available RAM.
  
• Added a Target FPS dropdown to settings and set of the Devil’s default target FPS to no greater than 60.

• Fixed an issue where certain choice cards and evidence items weren’t matching their display names 1:1.
  
• Adjusted minor contextual hinting during Trial 1-1.
  
• Adjusted contextual hinting during investigation to illustrate that codes may be alphanumeric/
  
• Added failsafes to attempt to award Demo-based bonuses if the Demo has already been uninstalled.

• Addressed a variety of grammar and spelling errors.

• Fixed an issue where the incorrect resolution value could be displayed upon starting the game and opening Settings for the first time.
  
• Fixed an issue where text reveal speed set in Settings was resetting to default value at improper times.
  
• Fixed an issue where Wager choices could fail to scale up properly if the game was being Skipped through at a high enough speed.
  
• Fixed an issue where screen elements in the background of the Courtroom could fail to animate properly.
  
• Reduced the intensity of camera bobbing inside the Courtroom.
  
• Fixed an issue where charms’ reflections were being lit improperly based on certain backgrounds being loaded.
  
• Fixed an issue where the Dialogue textbox would display text improperly for the duration of its dismissal animation.

• Fixed an issue where certain UI elements and unlockable concept art would appear at the wrong resolution on certain graphics quality settings.
  
• Fixed an issue where the phone wouldn’t always have the proper case color during texting conversations.
  
• Fixed an issue where the backlog could be viewed on the title screen.

• Players can now pause to review evidence in between looping dialogue for Objection segments. When the camera switches back to Morgan from the witness stand, take all the time you need to check things over.

Our first hotfix is here! We appreciate all your bug reports in our discord and on the steam forums. For this update, we prioritized issues that were impossible to miss, but know that we're taking a look at every item you all bring to our attention.

Items addressed in this hotfix include:
