Hello Node Farmers!

After a few months of adding improvements and features - Node Farm is entering a new era - version 2.0!

I introduced a few big things that I would like to share:

Big Farm is a new mode that focuses (like the name suggests) on building big farms! It is an alternative version of gameplay (compared to the previous one - roguelite) and I think that it may be a preferred way to to play now! (classic roguelite mode is still available though)

In general, this mode is more similar to the standard way of playing in other games of this genre. I hope that you will like it!

What is different in Big Farm mode?

• You start with 1 island and a boss island.
  
• You can buy islands anytime, and you can buy as many as you want.
  
• Boss Island is not destroyed after finishing a Boss. Instead, it increases the Farm Level.
  
• On each Farm Level, the boss will require a different number of resources/dishes. The difficulty level is increasing along with the Farm Level.
  
• After leveling up, you will be rewarded with an unlocked node (only for this run) and a global modifier. You can still unlock nodes in metaprogression so they will be available from the beginning of Big Farm mode.
  
• When you finish all bosses (50+), you will unlock the next level of NewGame+ with much harder, procedurally generated challenges. You can also play endlessly if you would like to.
  
• Big Farm boss is also selling a resource/dish that you provide to him, to markets are useful only if the boss is not requesting this particular dish.
  
• I had to make some changes in balance for this mode, so the metapoints income here is 3x smaller and there is no first recipe bonus.
  
• Cats are scaling better in this mode (depending on how many you have them on the boss island)
  
• Storage to Storage transport is enabled in this mode by default. (can be disabled in the settings)

It is a lot of fun to play!

You probably remember the One-Way Road node. I like how it works but I found it a little clunky, so now you can toggle "one way connection" mode in the toolbar and just make connections that will transport resources only one way! It makes a life much more easier!

Implementing a Big Farm required also a lot of performance fixes. Now the game is much more smooth!

It took me some time, but they work now without issues. The farms are crazy efficient now if you place the storage strategically as a buffer near the kitchen/crafter nodes!

I realized that after adding so many modes, difficulty levels, and NewGame+ in Big Farm mode - Hardcore Mode is not needed anymore as a legacy mode that adds much more work in regression testing. Especially when it was not used that often by players.

If you would like to see this mode in the game, or just include taxes as a part of difficulty - let me know!

There are a lot of smaller updates/bug fixes, but a few require a honorable mention:

• New: Multifilter node - an easier version of a filter node, where you can select multiple resources to filter (on a grid).
  
• Improvement: Global buffs are aggregated now in the Pause View.
  
• Improvement: Copy paste from the shop is possible now
  
• Improvement: I added a few more toggle options in the settings
  
• Change: More popups with info when the resource is produced/consumed (as always - can be disabled in the settings)
  
• Change: Transport speed buff is debuffed.

This time something smaller but still interesting!
Update v1.8 introduces copy/cut/paste/blueprints functionality and more tweaks on how the storage works! More info below:

• New: Copy/Cut/Paste added - as before, you can select nodes but now also - use CTRL+C to copy them (or CTRL+X to cut) and CTRL+V to paste. You can see the price of nodes that you want to paste - you can do this only if you can afford it.
  
• New: Blueprints/schematics - there is a new view where you can save your copied nodes layout (cross save) and paste them later in the game or in other runs. Blueprints are also copied to the system clipboard (if available) and can be shared between other players as a serialized, compressed, encrypted, and encoded string! An example below.
  
• Improvement: storages are now sending resources to the closest requester based also on other storages. No more storage racing like the one mentioned in the previous update. They still send resources if far away and closer storage has no resources (as it is an expected behavior).
  
• Improvement: a mention in the wiki about resource transport - all resources are pushed by the producer nodes, not pulled by consumer nodes. It was not clear before.

The first update this year is live - v1.7!
This time I focused more on QoL improvements, addressing feedback and game balance adjustments.

Let's take a look at the changelog:

• New: priority roads added - they are used to control the priority of the paths chosen by transports. The produced resource finds all available consumers, groups them by priority, and tries the highest one first. If not possible - it tries another priority group etc. Sounds complicated but I think it is rather intuitive. Markets have "-1" priority by default so it will sell resources only if they are not needed anywhere else with higher priority (can be configured on click).
  
• Change: Resources/dishes are sold even if they are not on the price list. They have their lowest price in that case (the lowest you can select in the price switch).
  
• Change: instant chests - I removed all previous algorithms for chest optimization and just made them try to send resources instantly. As a result, they are sending resources before the production nodes, so they are more useful as a buffer. I've seen that in some specific farm layouts, they can still race with other storages, but it may be not the case in most of the cases. (fixed in v1.8 - now there are no issues)
  
• New: throughput meter node - a new node that counts resources that go through it and can trigger a signal based on the thresholds you configure.
  
• Improvement: multiselect improvements - now you can hold CTRL+SHIFT for more advanced multi node selection. You can start on other nodes; the selection is not resetting, so you can select nodes in different places with a few mouse drags; you can deselect selected nodes if you try to select them again - it works like in other similar tools. Additionally, the selection is not automatically removed after placement.
  
• New: bonus islands - you can buy an additional island when the boss island is on the map. On each meta progression page, you can increase a bonus island value (max 6 for now). Useful if you are stuck with no more space or required island type to finish a boss.

• New: autoconnection can be enabled/disabled in the settings.
  
• Improvement: The grid/islands/nodes are more aligned now. Small nodes are smaller to fit the grid. I missed this one before for some reason. As a side effect - small nodes on previous saves may be a few pixels shifted up compared to new nodes. It can be fixed manually by disabling autoconnection and CTRL+LMB click all small nodes on the old farms - just in case you find it annoying.
  
• Change: The one-way road is moved to the "roads" category instead of utility.
  
• Change:The market can be placed on the water - why not?
  
• Change: I rebalanced low dish prices a little (more income)
  
• Change: The "With Filter" option in the price switch is enabled by default now.

In the next updates, I would like to focus on adding copy/paste/cut + blueprints. I made some first checks and it looks like it will be available this week.

Later - I would like to work on a new playing mode - "Big Farm". I am not sure about the name yet, but the idea is to let players build one big farm and unlock progression in the run separately from the metaprogression of the roguelite mode. Something more similar to other factory builders. It will be a totally separate mode and a big change compared to the previous modes.

It will be a little challenging as I will have to optimize and adapt algorithms to support much bigger farms without performance issues, but well - let's eat this elephant bite by bite! Wish me luck! :D

A new update is live - v1.6!

Those who are on my Discord server may know that I partly lost vision in one eye this month, which makes development much harder. According to my doctor, I should be fine in a few weeks.

I prepared a few improvements from my backlog (all based on your suggestions - thanks!) that were easy for me enough to make until I fully recovered.

Let's take a look at the changelog:

• Improvement: recipe/resource in nodes config and boss selection can now be selected from the grid layout.
  
• Improvement: Making a connection from the node to the empty space creates a road.
  
• Improvement: nodes in the shop are now more granularly split into new categories - buffs (per type), roads, logic gates/sensors, and crafters. Additionally - the shop is more compact.
  
• Improvement: A few tutorial improvements - kitchen, boiling, and salt are introduced when needed - not after checking a wiki.
  
• Improvement: It is possible to go back to the "save slots" from the "main menu"

Today I deployed a new major update - v1.5!
This time I focused more on Quality of Life improvements and the new feature - analytics/statistics view!

There is also an interesting experimental feature that can be enabled in the settings - resource transport between the storage clusters! More info below:

• New: analytics view added - now you can see the production/consumption/storage per island and globally (it is an additional view like "show connections" for example)
  
• New: analytics per node popup added - now you can see the production/consumption/storage when hovering over the node (it can be disabled in the settings)
  
• New: experimental feature - sending resources between the storage cluster added. If enabled - storage nodes that are not in the same cluster (a group of directly connected nodes of the same type) can send resources to other storage clusters (they couldn't do it before). It is disabled by default and can be enabled in the Settings menu.

• Improvement: in delete mode - when clicking on a node, without moving a mouse, you will delete only this one node (not all in a rectangle)
  
• Improvement: multiclicker and buffs can be placed on connections now
  
• Improvement: camera mode toolkit button added - it was not that clear that player can disable the ui (it was mentioned only in the wiki)
  
• Bug: multi-selected nodes were connecting to other selected neighbors if they were not connected - it worked while holding shift, but this behavior should be disabled anyway for the selected nodes - fixed
  
• Bug: eye dropper is selecting the wrong node in the utility category if the clickers are disabled - fixed

I am happy to announce a new update - v1.4!
This time I focused on making the game more customizable!

From now on - you can enable/disable features that affect the difficulty level of the game based on your personal preferences!

Let's take a look at the changelog:

• New: Difficulty levels added. The difficulty level is calculated based on the game modifiers players can choose when starting a new run (all of them in the next points)
  
• New: Configurable: Clickers - manual click on the production node and the multiclicker can be disabled/enabled now - it makes the game much easier, especially at the beginning.
  
• New: Configurable: Strict Kitchen - this option enables/disables the strict preprocessing requirements for the kitchen. If enabled - you have to provide resources processed in the order specified by the recipe. It makes the recipes more complicated.
  
• New: Configurable: 2x Buff range - if enabled - it will reverse the previous updates that make the buff range 2x smaller. The game is much easier to play this way.
  
• New: Configurable: Money Bags - they can be enabled or disabled now.
  
• New: Configurable: Global multiplier modifiers - I removed them in the previous update, but now they can be enabled or disabled. They are making the game MUCH easier if you have the reroll enabled too.
  
• New: Configurable: Rerolls - similar as above - they can be enabled or disabled now.
  
• New: Configurable: Eternal Hunger - it can be enabled or disabled now (eternal hunger means that the boss is eating provided resources over some time).
  
• New: Configurable: Harder Bosses - something new - bosses are much harder. They require more resources and consume resources faster if the "Eternal Hunger" is enabled. Very Hard - for more advanced players (if the Eternal Hunger is enabled).
  
• New: Configurable: Different Shapes - also something new - standard islands will appear in different shapes and sizes. A little harder game, but more interesting

• Bug: node connection collision was not inconsistent - fixed
  
• Bug: outdated connection colors removed (purple)
  
• Bug: one-way-road was broken after moving connected nodes in a specific way - fixed
  
• Change: The number of available islands in the island shop increased to 9
  
• Improvement: highlight the side if the neighboring nodes are not connected - can be disabled/enabled in the settings menu (disabled by default)
  
• Change: All buffs/logic nodes can be placed on any type of terrain; roads can be placed anywhere but the hole - it was a little annoying in some cases that the player couldn't do it
  
• Change: The black connections cannot be created anymore - they caused a lot of confusion for new players
  
• Bug: fixed missing translations

The default difficulty settings are set based on the previous game versions. When you start a new run, you can change whatever you like, so don't worry about broken saves/runs :)

Hello Node Farmers!

Well, it was fast, but today I deployed a new major update - v1.3!
This time I focused more on game balancing and a few interesting improvements in the logic system.

In the next updates, I would like to focus more on the game balancing and I will be glad for your feedback! So if you find the game too easy/too hard, or some things useless/too OP - please let me know :)

I am thinking about introducing difficulty levels (standard ones like easy/medium/hard) with various features disabled/enabled and some stats adjusted depending on the level. All of us while playing have a different feeling about the game. I would like to make Node Farm as accessible as possible based on your personal preferences :)

Let's take a look at the changelog:

• New: logic port added - it can be used to transfer wireless logic signal over a long distance. Now you can make a CPU island that controls the logic and just wire logic ports with road switches remotely!
  
• New: logic clock added - it ticks from time to time changing its logic state and triggering other logic nodes (the timing is configurable)
  
• Change: logic gates cooldown is reached instantly when the input signal changes - logic systems are much more responsive (near-instant on the input logic state change - check out the video below)
  
• Change: buying island - a reroll is removed, but there are 7 islands to choose from now.
  
• New: borderless window mode added - now you can play idle mode while working on 2 monitors!
  
• Change: Global modifiers that the player gets with an island - (multipliers only, not the adder ones) - were too OP. I removed them for now. They are still available in previous saves for compatibility, but no more for new islands
  
• Change: standard buffs radius is 2x smaller - it was too OP as well, especially with a compact builds

• Change: More on-hover hints added (like "with filter", "global modifiers")
  
• Change: Money is visible now in the "buy island view"
  
• Bug: node price overloaded on high prices - fixed
  
• Bug: Grabbing island buff resets the timer - fixed
  
• Bug: Non-removable nodes could be swapped with other nodes of the same size. Including the boss (!).
  
• Bug: holding shift was not preventing small nodes from placing on connections (holding shift while placing any node should not auto-connect it to anything) - fixed
  
• Bug: island price glitch when finishing the last boss (it had an enormous number for a moment)
  
• Change: pigs and rabbits require less resources and produces more meat

• Change: "storage priority" algorithm (storage priority over production nodes) affects only storages on the same island as the consumer (kitchen/crafter/seed) that needs the resource. It prevents consumers from getting resources from storage a few islands away, and at the same time makes this mechanism more reliable. It still uses heuristics that are not 100% deterministic - I am working on improving it, so if you find that it is not working as designed - let me know! Optimizing this one is still in progress :)

After a week of hard work, I am introducing a new update: v1.2!
This time I focused on implementing a new economy mode - "idle"!

After choosing the game mode (sandbox/roguelite/hardcore) you can choose if you would like to play the "classic" experience with a money cap or a new unlimited "idle" one with much faster growing node prices. What I can say after playing is that automation makes much more sense in this economy :)

In a few minor updates before, I was working on making the storage more efficient - it is also included in v1.2. Just as a lot of bug fixes and improvements based on your feedback!

Below is the full changelog from version 1.1 to 1.2:

• New: Additional economy mode - "idle". The node prices grow much faster but there is no money cap!
  
• Change: Storage has a priority now over producer nodes - if you have storage near your kitchens/crafters/seeds etc, resources will be taken from there if possible
  
• Change: storage and fridge have more capacity
  
• Change: the boss requires much more resources on high level islands
  
• Bug: negation node didn't work correctly - fixed
  
• Improvement: Show selected resource icons on filters/price switch node graphics
  
• Bug: When moving a group - small nodes were sometimes reconnecting on nearby connections in the group - fixed

• Bug: buffs didn't buff nodes on the edge of the island nearby - fixed
  
• Bug: Sometimes pause was in an incorrect state after changing views and pressing ESC - fixed
  
• Bug: dish icon on boss island selection didn't show on the island icon - fixed
  
• Bug: price switch incorrectly indicated that it needs 2 connections - fixed
  
• Bug: invisible collision boxes in the tutorial (where a shop should be) - fixed

• Bug: Nori and Fish resources could also travel on the water roads - it made connection management annoying

• Bug: The game was not paused when entering the buy island/boss view - fixed
  
• Change: Only LMB can click UI buttons - it fixes a few annoying issues related to accidental clicks
  
• Change: tomato is no longer requiring wood - it is easy to soft lock with it
  
• Change: minor changes in the nodes meta unlocks
  
• Change: a few changes in the tutorial (more hints where needed)

Thank you all for your feedback, I made a lot of fixes/improvements/changes according to it! Let's take a look at a changelog of update v1.1.1:

• New: Block resource production if there are no available consumers waiting for it - no more waste!
  
• New: Resource transport as resource icons, not dots - it is much easier now to see what is going on. The icons/dots display can be disabled/enabled in the settings.
  
• New: A possibility to clear one specific resource in the chest - no need to clear all the storage if there are a few not-wanted resources.
  
• New: an indication that a node is not connected - there will be a red frame around the node if it is not connected to anything and it should. I will be working on expanding this QoL feature more in upcoming patches!
  
• New: a cluster of storages synchronize to send resources one after another (not all storages at once as before). It makes the resources transport more efficient :)
  
• Change: grabbing a node is faster by default and the grab speed can be configured in the settings - no more annoying waiting when playing without a keyboard!
  
• Bug: the game unpauses itself when clicking on a configurable node - it is fixed now!
  
• Bug: performance - multithreading was not used for path calculation - it will work faster on bigger farms now
  
• New: pressing ESC in the main menu goes back to the game if it exists

• Bug: The boss can be rerolled - reroll removed on the boss island, it was useless
  
• New: pressing ESC cancels "delete mode", and "show connection mode" (instead of going back to the main menu immediately)
  
• New: pressing ESC cancels the warning (like the one when the player clicks "Ascend")
  
• New: seed nodes connect automatically to other seed nodes
  
• Change: pickled cucumber moved to the first page so the complexity on the beginning is less steep (instead of french fries that require oil)
  
• Bug: performance - the game was recreating all graphics when changing views (frequent long loading time on big farms)
  
• Bug: a fish food icon is displaying now

In the next updates, I am going to work more on QoL improvements, removing soft locks and alternative economy without a money cap. After the game will be stable, I will move forward to add more interesting content :)
