So since Volition is now confirmed dead, can the community please make FS3 for them?
The usual viewpoint was that nothing community made would come close to an official FS3, so the very concept of writing past the cliffhanger was verboten. However, since the Saints Row Reboot killed the company stone dead, there is now a 0% chance of an official FS3 ever coming out. Therefore that argument is null and void, and thus the community should put its best heads together to finish the damn Freespace saga.

I know posting on here is likely not gonna make a lick of difference, but as Steam Forums are one of the only forums I frequent I figured I'd post here and hope someone spreads my idea further.

It wasnt one game that killed this company. And R.I.P., I spent hundreds of hours as a kid playing freespace and freespace 2. Was one of my first titles in pc gaming. What a way to start.

It was killed because it was bought out by a soulless money sucking company who pushed profit above gameplay.

When the game flopped and they werent able to use volition's brand to push it, deep silver decides to dissolve them, when it was their ceo and managers who likely were responsible for such a boring game.

STORY? PLOT?

WHO CARES ABOUT THAT, KIDS JUST WANNA BLOW ♥♥♥♥ UP

I imagine thats how the meetings with the managers went.

It also does not help that when I want to mod this game I have to go to a community with one of the most insane moderators I have ever seen.

From what I have seen from the mods on Knossos there is already a FS3 mod out there called Blue Planet: advances the plot tying together and elaborating on all the plot points from FS1 and FS2 along with soundtrack and voice acting (at least for the first two parts).

To be honest, recreating the core mechanics of FS2 in a modern engine would be quite easy. Sometimes I think about giving it a go considering I have never found any other game that comes close to the feeling of FS2. Unfortunately my writing sucks.

I highly reccomend FSO to anyone looking for a modern freespace. It looks really good imo and gets constant updates from a surprisingly active community of developers. The original games are remastered and there are many mods, including some that advance the freespace story.

there is also a new faster version of knossos (the mod launcher) that doesnt seem to be on there i assume because it just came out and is still being tested
