Knossos, YES. get it.
Great community of gamers too at Hard-light.

So have freespace 2 on steam downloaded, downloaded the knossos installer etc - loaded the upgraded graphics mod media vps - i click on the play button in the knossos launcher thats associated with mediavps - can do the first 3 tutorial training missions with the updated graphics but when goes to first actual mission for campaign it doesnt run and crashes back to the knossos main screen.

The freespace steam starter shortcut and the knossos FS2 campaign shortcut/play buttons only get me the original graphics from original game and they work to play beyond the first training missions - Am I missing something or some step to get the update graphics with these shortcut buttons?

You need to use the MediaVPs mod to get the updated graphics.

I installed Knossos and MediaVPs. Everything seemed to be working fine, I completed the tutorial levels, but I cannot load the first level due to it crashing. I see the loading screen for maybe a second and the game crashes to the desktop with no error message.

I verify file integrity and it says an error was detected. Packages MV_Music and MV_RadarIcons are invalid. I redownload them and the game still crashed. Going to verify file integrity gets this same error every time.

I'm getting the same crash as Case and Marik. Game will crash after loading screen. Did reinstall and still occurs. Going to try the non-Knossos FSO because this is frustrating.

just needed to delete the files in the data folder
navigate to %appdata%/HardLightProductions/FreespaceOpen/data/players and try moving the files out of there? (Probably the .plr and .json files will suffice)

Hey there, Knossos looks fantastic! I'm really impressed coming back to FSO from, like, 2008? 2010?

Just wondering, what's the state of Gamepad controllers (XB1/PS4/X360/Etc)? I've been searching through Hard Light and it seems like it's got a hundred different answers (GlovePIE is no more, do we have to install a virtual joystick program?)

i can't install it on Ubuntu due to some PPA launch pad 404 error. i still have the original game discs from way back when so i have no need to get it on steam. it seems i'm not the only one, with two reporting on hard-light.

This launcher is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aswesome!!!!!!! wow so much content out there to explore...can't thank enough the people behind it

Please hover your mouse over the MediaVPs mod tile in Knossos, extend the dropdown menu and use "Run Fast Debug", play the game until you encounter the bug/crash, and then again in the dropdown menu of MediaVPs select "Upload Debug Log" and then share the link.

FSO error logs are pretty transparent and I'm sure that if I'm unable to find the problem, some of our more experienced community members will. Worst case scenario, this will launch a serious bug investigation.

For now, I think you can force Knossos to download one of the previous versions of MediaVPs (like 4.0.0) and use it instead; you just need to hover your mouse over MediaVPs tile, click "Details", and select your version with the dropdown selection menu in the top left corner. You might need to also click "Options" and then "Modify" to force a download if it doesn't happen automatically.

I also suggest you either give Hard Light Productions forum a visit, or join us at the HLP Discord server: https://discord.gg/YNVP3WR - this will let us react quicker to bug reports or inform players of the good stuff much easier.

Er.. those guys posted before even MediaVPs 4.0 is out. Assuming they even check this board, they should probably start with 4.1.23.

I haven't been able to get Knossos to work. I have the GOG installer (full/offline version), point it towards that and it tells me it doesn't contain the "retail files".

I'm pretty sure you need to run the GOG installer first, and point Knossos towards your install directory.

Yep. It does have an option to extract directly from the GOG installer file, but apparently GOG changed something and Knossos hasn't updated yet (update's committed, but not released). For now you have to install from GOG installer > point Knossos towards that > once Knossos does its thing you can uninstall GOG version.

Still getting that 404 error attempting to get Knossos and i've been waiting for 10 months for this to solve itself.

Looks like i'm not gonna be able to play Freespace any point this century, not unless i go through one of other launchers, which aren't anywhere near as good.
