[RANT] Man, f*** Gilroy
For some reason I can't beat this SOB of a Final Boss in my attempt to get the true ending. Too many annoying attacks, Especially that cheap shield attack and the fire spears. Not to mention the BS final phase attack that locks you between bigarse pillars of pure concentrated "screw u". LVL 75 All Abilities MAX, all of the relics and gear obtained and upgraded. This boss just sucks.
Don't mind me. Just venting. :steamsalty:

If i may. The parry windows are very generous. If you stand still for most of his attacks and just time the spam. It works. Even with the massive AoE slam down he does. Try it with the pyro parry.

He's definitely a difficulty spike which dwarf the difficulty of the rest of the game, with the exception of Velgrynd, which I consider the second difficulty spike of the game.

Now, if he's really a problem, you can lower difficulty at any time.

i still don't get why people found Velgrynd so hard. yeah he was a bit annoying with the long sweeping slashes but he was pretty do-able once you got the parry and timing right.
Managed to actually beat him right after posting this, lol. Didn't adjust the difficulty at any point. Turns out all I needed was to be more patient. That or I just suddenly got lucky with the attack patterns. Definitely not as bad as Veilgrynd tbh. :p
Velgrynd was nothing compared to Gilroy considering how much you can abuse the movement tech to stay airborne, you can slip through Velgrynd's attacks rather easily with quintuple scythe jumping and double air dashing. True Boss Gilroy was so annoying to get through. He just has so many oneshot moves. I think I beat him at level 30-40? Max level abilities but not all my trinkets were maxed, on hard of course. Gilroy's moveset just makes it annoying as hell.
I beat the game twice before I knew you could parry. None of the bosses are very difficult to dodge, and none of the moves are so crazy that I would consider them unfair. I'm sorry it was so frustrating for you.

how on earth did you not discover parrying until after beating the game twice? did you not read the description of the carapaces? or the shackled beast's ability at least..

well personaly i did know of parry but never once used the parry (100% the game on hard)

to op: the only "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" move of him (if you ask me) is the counter since it sometimes comes mid your own atacks or gets triggered when you use projectile atacks. almost all atacks of him are somewhat easy to dodge into. in the final phase you can simply dodge into the pillars to avoid dmg or use your special atacks for i-frames.
The final slam attack is particularly BS. It took me two deaths just to figure out how to dodge the stupid thing. The first one I had no idea what was coming and had ~50% HP so it was an instant kill. The second time I tried parrying it with the Shackled Beast. Bad move. I really hate all the AOE attacks that are basically "pray you aren't in a corner when the attack starts". At least Gilroy's not as bad as Velgrynd's one.

The parry attack also kind of sucks with how much damage it deals. It needs more of a tell before it becomes a threat. Better yet, change it to a normal attack. The enemies' parry abilities that force you to stop attacking and stand still for awhile are just kinda lame. What fun is it to wait for an enemy to finish the parry animation?
I swear, these kind of "skill issue" posts pop up on literally EVERY game that requires a little bit of skill.
You literally has all the arts by this moment, even if you can't dodge something you can just throw things like Lorna's heal and be COMPLETELY IMMUNE to anything for good 2 seconds.

I adore Gilroy, easily my favorite boss in the game. My sole complaint with his fight is the pillars in his final phase, which are absolutely BS, but beyond that, I was able to refine the fight to the point of no-hitting it by the end of my hour or so of attempts before actually beating him. Once you know his patterns and get a read on his tells, that fight becomes absolutely incredible. An immense step up from the final boss of Ender Lilies.

This, the final fight is great, save for those damn pillars which limit your mobility so much it is almost a death sentence depending on what attack he uses while they are still up. The only other attack that I hated was his ice shard counter, it just goes off so instantly I could never get a read on it. The sheer number of times I was mid attack and boom he triggered that was absurd.

The slam is itself is very easy to deal, use Schackle Beast when his eye shine (which indicate the beginning of the slam) then during Schackle Beast counter animation spam the parry very easy, the actual BS is the pillar can summon right on your spot and with the big explosion effect it's very hard to see..

Aside from his slam attack at the start of the fourth phase, he's pretty easy. You can be crazy aggressive the entire time. Use pressure drill + pressure whirlwind continuously with a relics build for pressure, break damage and stagger. I also have the relics for +20% att/def when 2 SP gauges are full and the relic for +20% attack when enemy has a status effect coupled with the owl's shock ability which keeps him status-afflicted most of the time. His stamina and HP just MELT. You only need 1 knockdown per phase, don't even need to use attuner arts (and don't want to since they give +20% att/def).

Aside from the fourth phase slam, the only other thing to watch out for is the big sword swing in phase 2. The timing is a lot more generous when parrying than dodging so make sure to come to a full stop and get ready to parry that one.

Now I'm off to try the Shackled Beast strat for the slam... Never bothered with SB before so this will be interesting.
