Also, if you’re unfamiliar with the series, this is the second game. The first game is Ender Lilies and while it’s not really important to play that game first, both are awesome so there’s not much reason to skip it.

I decided to give this a try I'll play the first one and see how it goes then go from there..!
While technically you don't need to of played the first game, you are going to miss out on a lot of references and the background theme of how the blight etc works.
These are both non-linear action adventure games (Metroidvanias if you want to call them that), that have very good world building and passable combat / skills that do improve significantly as you progress the game.
