New discovery regarding my stutter [SOLVED.... auto saves]
So I've had the dreaded stutter for a while now but I can't say it bothers me enough to have a melt down ....

That being said, when I see suggestions by others on the forum to fix the stutter I always try them out because I don't see the harm in that.... If it doesn't work I just revert back to the way it was

The actual game runs quite well for me as I recently had my computer gutted and rebuilt into something just next to top tier

Anyway, here's what I've discovered, in my case ......

Using RivaTuner and MSI afterburner I see the the stutter as a jump in frame time (nothing else correlates) EXACTLY EVERY 5 REAL TIME MINUTES

No idea what it means but I find it interesting

Edit..... Looks like the auto saves are the issue

I don't have RivaTuner but MSI Afterburner has absolutely no affect on mine. In fact, every time I see a stutter in mine I go back to what is posted, 99% of the time - MOD conflict, and on mine that is what I find. It can be running flawless one day, turn it on the next and boom. With so much running and little updates here and there, just got to stay on top, or give up the mods, not saying that is your problem, just throwing it out there. And 98% of the time it's a map mod.

Unfortunately I know it's not a mod issue because that's one of the many things I've tested .... Stutters in vanilla profile as well

It was also suggested that Afterburner and RivaTuner (as well as any kind of monitoring software) was the issue .... Stutters occur with it on or off

I'm always lurking in the background on this and the SCS forum reading threads on the stutter and FPS drops ..... And I always try the suggestions posted but have never had complete success

I'm very curious as to what's going on every 5 minutes to cause my issue .... Quite a noodle scratcher :steamhappy:
I have no stutter and use riva tuner to monitor things through the afterburner OSD.

Does it actually stop when you disable them? Because every five mins could actually be the game autosaving.

Try looking at Windows Task Manager, a program running in the background and using CPU cycles at regular intervals could be the problem, or if you have a slow HDD, or use Microsoft OneDrive as the "home" directory, then the regular auto-saves could be causing it.
It is best to not have any programs running as well as ATS, no browsers, Internet chat, Discord servers, nothing at all if possible.
I have a long list of possible fixes, compiled from all the suggestions that players have posted to fix stuttering and lagging. If you would be interested I could post it here.

P.S. After seeing #Nimir-Raj post, I should add that I run RivaTuner Statistics Server and MSI Afterburner in every game I play and have never had any stuttering or lagging at all. They are very useful tools for trouble-shooting and do not usually interfere with games running, that would defeat the whole object of them.

I have checked task manager and have removed quite a bit of windows 11 bloatware..... The task manager shows ATS as the hungry program (obviously) and nothing too hungry after that .... Steam, Nvidia, windows stuff and Avast things are always running

I don't use OneDrive and use a nearly empty SSD (the kind that looks like a stick)

I have seen many of your posts regarding suggestions and have tried most, if not all of them..... But if it's an easy copy/paste I think it would be helpful for you to post it again.... If not for me at the very least it might help someone else out

Disable any energy saving options on windows and concerning PCIE slot and in BIOS, ReBar option on, disable any adaptive sync features of your display. That should cover 90% of stuttering. Disable your antivir realtime protection for testing purposes. Check frame rate of your display.

AfterBurner is an ancient tool and a waste of time to deal with in my pov, even if it "works" for some of you guys.

Not a problem:

Some helpful hints from players in this forum to note for better performance:

If you've previously used the TAA graphics mod, delete all files from it. (Snowymoon mod)
Make sure the game and Steam are not running in compatibility mode.
If running windows 7, use OpenGL mode as DX no longer works. Windows 7 is no longer supported by Steam or Microsoft, you need to upgrade to Win 10 or 11.

*Make sure your Windows swap file is set to 'system managed'IMPORTANT*
Disable the NVIDIA overlay
Disable the Discord overlay
Disable the Steam overlay.
Do not have any programs running in the background, especially Discord, browsers, Internet chat or messaging.
Reduce any scaling back to 100%
Don't overclock your GPU, even if it is factory overclocked.
You may need more than 20GB free on the system drive for swap files
If you are on NVIDIA and have previously used the Profile Inspector for better anti-aliasing, all SCS profiles MUST be restored to driver default, for game version 1.50.
If you use DSR, deactivate it.
Turn off or reduce SSAO
Clean all system fans, make sure all grilles are free from dust and the cooling works properly for the system, the PSU, the GPU and CPU.
Some anti-virus programs can cause a crash on start. You only need to use Windows Defender, that is the most reliable anti-virus and firewall program for Windows. Third-party paid for software is not needed.

Always make sure your graphics drivers and Windows are both fully up to date.
I'm not ignoring any of you or your responses.... I work 2 x 12 hour shifts Saturday and Sunday so I'll be responding and trying things out on Monday

Thanks to all
I ran across another thread that might interest you. I was leaning towards your antivirus program, I run Vipre and it has a gaming selection that stops anything from running scans but still protects the machine. What I read today, and makes perfect sense is the AUTO SAVE runs every 5 minutes. Look in the top left corner of the screen when it stutters and see if it's saving. I guess there is a way to turn it off if you prefer it not to run.

There is not. The only related setting is to turn off the icon popping up when it happens.

Good know, personally I would rather do it manually.
I disabled SSAO totally, which absolutely made ZERO differences to the naked eye (you won't be driving side by side at the same time with one game running SSAO and the other not running it lol) and turned off car headlight and other vehicle lights reflection options and left everything at 2K res, 100%, low shadows and high to ultra everything and my 1660Ti and 3050 both seem to now only drop 5 to 10 frames for about 5 seconds vs 15 to 20 frames for 10-20 seconds while drive-testing at my little frame-testing area in the Los Angeles reworked map, specifically the section near the Kenworth dealership area going up to and past the freeway on/off ramp. That section is notorious after the 1.53 rework for causing massive fps drops and stutter and by disabling above, things seem to have gotten better.

Will need to do more testing in other areas specially the intersections where the GPU spikes and frame drops happen quite often.

And oh, I do run Cipus' Real Traffic Density mod which adds like a hundred cars all over the place and at busy intersections which obviously causes resource drains and spikes, specially the GPU (not the CPU).

So i went into ATS and checked the auto saves..... Every 5 minutes!

I never would have guessed this is the cause

I'm using a 1TB NVMe SSD that has 2/3 free space

I guess I'll have to look into the health of the drive and perhaps uninstalling the rest of my old drives. I've been too lazy to transfer files over the years and just keep all my old drives so maybe that's an issue????
Thanks to all for suggestions

If you are referring to the autosave frequency doing long term damage to your drive, do not worry about it. ATS profiles are very small. My two main profiles are only 6 and 14 MB each, which in the long run is nothing for any modern drive.
