Dreadout is a captivating and spine-chilling horror game that masterfully blends traditional Indonesian folklore with survival horror elements. The game throws you into an eerie and immersive world. (Or threw, game came out in 2014.)



That Indonesian town setting and folklore-based horror elements create an immersive and fresh experience for its time.


Using a smartphone camera to slay ghosts and solve puzzles is a creative and fun twist that adds depth to the gameplay. Ive never played a Game that lets you kill stuff with just a phone. (Which then got an big Upgrade in Dreadout 2)


As I mentioned previously, the game introduces players to Indonesian myths and legends, offering a unique cultural perspective. It was interresting learning about all the indonesian folklore.


Linda is a relatable (atleast for Introverts) high school student,with a magic ability which makes players feel more invested in her journey.

The eerie sound effects and haunting music significantly enhance the horror atmosphere and nostolagic to the horror games made back in 2014.



While the game does an excellent job creating a haunting atmosphere, the graphics and animations can feel a bit outdated. This can break the immersion, especially for players who are used to more polished visuals, but keep in mind that the game is made in 2014.


The game's pacing can be inconsistent, with some sections feeling slow and dragging on, while others may feel rushed. This can disrupt the overall flow of the story and impact the tension-building that is crucial in horror games. Especially when you are at school for the first time. That was pure hell.


Some players might find the gameplay mechanics repetitive after a while. The reliance on using the smartphone camera to fend off ghosts can become predictable, and the game could benefit from more varied gameplay elements to keep things fresh. (That gets kinda fixed in the 2nd game thoght.)


Once you've completed the game and experienced the story, theres no reason to replay the game sadly. While the cultural aspects and atmosphere are intriguing, the lack of additional content might leave some players wanting more.


Overall, while Dreadout offers a unique and engaging horror experience, it's important to be aware of these potential drawbacks. If you're willing to overlook these issues, the game still has a lot to offer in terms of atmosphere and storytelling. Have Fun gaming this old gem!
