DreadOut Monetization Issue: YouTube Content ID False Claim
A few days ago some YouTube user reported that YouTube has revoked their rights to monetize their DreadOut gameplay videos (Let's Play, Review, etc) because some third party media has filled a claim that they own the copyright of the visual content.

That definitely is an invalid claim! Digital Happiness through PT Digital Semantika Indonesia is the sole copyright holder for DreadOut video game.

We are already give permission to monetize DreadOut game related videos as stated in our game manual on page 2:

"We are fine with YouTube monetization using recorded video material from this video game as long as the video is somehow related to the game (e.g. review, preview, a Let's Play, or some other similar type). Also, it is allowed to use the music from the game in connection with videos related to our game. However music used outside of videos of our game is not allowed. Please mention the official website of the game in your video or in description."

This matter is still under our investigation, but if you are experiencing this issue, please submit a link to DreadOut game manual on Steam and provide the statement above in your Video Manager as an additional documentation to restore and claim your YouTube monetization rights.

This is the link to our game manual: http://store.steampowered.com/manual/269790

Thank you
Digital Happiness

I think DreadOut is a good horror game. I'm quite impressed with it, especially considering it's an Indie developed game made by a small team (I'm an aspiring Indie Game Developer myself, so I know a lot of time and work can go into trying to make a good game).

I've been enjoying playing through it and have been making a Let's Play series of it for my channel. I've always provided the info about the permissions (as mentioned above) in the videos descriptions and so far I've been lucky and have not had any claims on them.

It's unfortunate that there are some scammers out there that try to make false claims on some YouTube videos. I do my homework before making my videos and see if permission is allowed (or in some cases I make contact with the Developers via email) and give credits / links to the games I cover.

Thanks for giving us permission to make and share videos of your game.
Keep up the good work. :)
When I buy games now the first thing I look for is does this publisher support Let's Play creators?! Then I saw this post and thought Wow you guys rock! :steamhappy:

I love to see Developer's taking a proactive stand on this. Deep Silver is the same way!

I always buy from Developer's who support Let's Play creators first! So consider your product bought as well as my future support for buying your products!
I do not k:Toxic_Geralt:now

Hello there, I'm aware that this is an old thread, but it also seems to be the official thread for these sorts of queries, so here goes!

I'm a small YouTuber with only a handful of followers and nowhere near monetisation, but when I started my playthrough of DreadOut last year I got slapped with a copyright claim for the use of "Lucky Me" by Mocca played during DreadOut's Act 1 title screen. The impact was that I simply couldn't monetise the playthrough if I wanted to.

I forgot all about it until this year I was reviewing my videos and saw the claim so decided to dispute it based on the information in the OP above. I said I had permission, quoted your post above and provided a link to the game manual as advised. My dispute has just been rejected and Believe Music are adamant they own the copyright to the track.

Now I don't work in the music industry but I'm aware that it's a complex business and there are probably many stakeholders involved, but I must check, by saying we have permission to use the music in our playthroughs, you do mean both the score (the ambient tracks created for the game) and the soundtrack (e.g. "Lucky Me") right? I've not missed a trick have I?

So as it stands I'm not sure if I should just let it go or appeal? I don't want to rock the boat and get a strike, but I feel that the claim is in conflict with what you're saying above.

Any advice is welcome please! Thank you!

I'm certainly not trying to promote my own content but here's my video in question so you can see what I've done is likely similar to many other YouTuber's playthroughs and I've structured the video description correctly:
