Technically they might have been able to just produce lecks, as they use titan deposits, or metal scrpas in game, for their theeth. This makes it very likely one accidentally ripped open the floating stuff, leaving them unprotected on the seafloor. More stalkers attack, maybe leaks start appearing, until they finally have been able to rip a hole big enough to fit a human through.

It took you a while to get infected, so i cant imagine that other people caught it much quicker than You. And i mean, have you seen a Warper in the Kelp Forest?

I've had the Reaper Leviathan follow me into the kelp forest several times so.... it could be safe to say one of them ate them. For story purposes, as dangerous as so many critters are, it's very likely they all got eaten. In fact, it's even less likely that there would be ANY survivors at all. We (the player) is just exceptionally lucky! Would of been cool to find some though.... maybe that made it to that S. Island. It might of been too much work for the Dev's to code in other humanoid's / survivors or just didn't fit the ideas for the game. Wonder if anyone will ever mod some in? So many good mods on Nexus.

Remember that Officer Keen and CTO Yu both survived, but they were intercepted by a reaper on the way to the Aurora.

but that cant work out, because it takes time to catch the khaara and if we got it after a good amount of time, they must have been there for a while and in their conditions they would have died of no oxygen

Survivors on surface (including Aurora debris) are immediately attacked by spiders. Presumed, everyone rushed to the surface without proper equipment (rifles), maybe even without a knife, meds - this proved to be fatal.

survivors did make it but a bunch died to (SPOILERS) radiation, stalkers, kharaa, etc. not all diseases affect every single organism the same way (take for example covid). while stalkers wouldnt have been able to tear holes in the pods, debris 100% could have. in a crash, spaceship or car or anything, theres likely to be debris. in space, the pods would probably and it appears it likely got weakened or damaged by debris colliding with pods.

or its just convenient to be the only one left as a survivor. that too
