When creating a second character it appears on the lower left side along with the first character name. You can choose input for each character, but that's it. There's no way to edit or remove a character. Whatever option I select in the menu (continue, proving grounds, etc) it will start in split screen.
The only workaround is to delete the actual profile file for the second character.
