Rather Low FPS
Hi all. I have been playing through the tutorial level (love the game so far), and I have been noticing some really low FPS. This is very apparent when you first wake from the dream.

In the town near the statue I get 20 FPS on very high or maximum.

Now my system is no juggernaught, but I don't think I should be seeing quite this level of performance with a Geforce GTX 660, i5 3.2 GHz and 8 gigs of RAM. The game looks great but the level of graphics just doesn't seem to be at a level that would cause this.

There are no fine controls for the graphics options either, just abstract high, low, very high etc.

Is there something I'm missing?

Hey Slashimus!
The lower performance compared to other games has to do with the fact, that we have so many dynamic objects in Son of Nor. You can interact with tons of objects + even terraform. These facts prevented us from applying certain optimization techniques that are common in other static-environment-titles, thus the performance requirements are a little higher than usual (and not caused by the visuals, but rather physics).

Ugh, i guess it is another Unity engine game with just the standard presets. :( How hard can it be to add custom options for Shadows, AA, Bloom, etc. ? The game Hektor does it right.

Ich werde später noch mehr schreiben, aber hier wollte ich schnell einen Kommentar anfügen:

Das Problem mit starken Rucklern zeigte sich mir schon beim Abspielen der Intro-Filme. Leichtes Stottern bei den Entwickler-Logos, extremes Ruckeln beim Intro.
Das trübt den Ersteindruck offensichtlich erheblich!

Klar, ich bin einer (der Wenigen!), der drüber hinwegsehen kann, aber da liegt irgendein Hund begraben. Meine Systemkonfiguration ist nebensächlich, da auch heutige Smartfone kein Problem damit haben sollten.

@Amylion: Could you please file a bug report (just hit F4 in-game) so we can check if there is any weird problem going on? Thanks! (the video should definitely not lag. ever.)

Thanks for the reply Abandor. I understand the explanation, but that really sounds like something that should have been mentioned up front. As much fun as the environment manipulation is, 20 FPS is pretty bad for a rig like mine. What happens when the action really heats up? I haven't done much in the game yet, but I can't imagine it will get better as I play.

Actually looking at your system requirements on the store page. They are really low. I mean exceptionally low. You should maybe adjust them.

Also das Stottern beim Still-Alive-Logo ist fast unmerklich, es fällt nur bei den Flocken auf, die sich leicht ruckartig bewegen. Es stottert auch bei der Blende. Beim Viva-Media-Logo ist es noch unauffälliger, aber doch vorhanden, es fehlt an Flüssigkeit.

Das Intro weist vor allem bei den horizontalen Kameraschwenken starkes Ruckeln auf. Die Bildfrequenz der vorbeiziehenden Zeichnungen liegt bei geschätzt 10 Hertz, vielleicht auch nur 5.

@Slashimus: Actually it shouldn't get worse, the town area is among the heaviest on the system ;-)
