Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Onimusha is not Sekiro or Nioh. Please make an onimusha game.
Onimusha is one of my favorite game series since my childhood. It's competed even to this day with games like bayonetta as in terms of endearment and satisfaction in playing. The trailer really worried me, because none of the gameplay footage looked anything like any of the previous games, and I'm VERY scared they're going to add a stamina bar or make it a game about a stoic lone protagonist in a setting devoid of companionship.

TLDR, things that were pivotal to the aesthetic of onimusha games in my opinion:

-An Ensemble cast of the protagonists companions, usually including MULTIPLE playable characters (Kaede in onimusha 1, Ekei, oichi, kotaro and magoichi in 2, Michelle has a sequence in 3, and Dawn of dreams has 5 playable characters outright). I consider this to be extremely important to the identity of the franchise

-The gameplay was fast, responsive, especially in terms of movement. When you were in a stance, just flicking the stick repeatedly enabled multiple microdashes, a feeling that was PIVOTAL to the speed of ALL FOUR of the original games, not just for speedrunning. Parrying rewarded you with a lighting fast deadly ISSEN, something i'm SHOCKED wasn't in the trailer in favor of sekiro esq execution animations. I liked that he parried and threw enemies, but if the game has a stamina bar I will feel a deep disappointment.

-The tone was something of a samurai drama that had moments of levity and humanity that balanced the horror. it was pleasantly campy, and even if it's not exactly that, I'd hate to see Way of the Sword try to be edgy or take itself way too seriously.

-Multiple weapons with different oni magics. I'm sure capcom will include this, but the trailer was giving me sekiro vibes in a way that I hope are just anxiety after 20 years of no other releases. I like sekiro, but I don't want it used as a basis for this game.

If anything, I just don't want to see a stamina bar in this game no matter what

Totally agree. I hope they manage to preserve the original tone of the Onimusha series.

For the love of god, Capcom, please don't make Onimusha a souls-like!

yup i hope they make it fast paced action packed like DMC. i wouldnt even mind if they made it faster paced like shinobi on ps2

IT NEEDS to be a hack'n'slah game not soulslike crap.
I just see this as the evolution of hack and slash.

It went two directions

Charscter action games like metal gear revengence, Bayonetta, devil may cry.

Then the other side you got your dark souls lies of p and nioh.

It certainly isn't. Nioh is far superior to what I remember Onimusha being in the early 00's, a mediocre hack n slash series..

unironically i've put more hours into the onimusha series than nioh hard disagree
No1 will buy it like they did to Devil May cry 5.....

"It won several awards, and sold over two million units in less than two weeks after its release, which increased to 8.7 million units as of October 2024, making it the best-selling game in the franchise. "

I'll take onimusha spectacle fighter 100% of the time over onimusha souls game and it's not even close. Ever since onimusha 4 you could tell they wanted you to be able to do cool combos
bayonetta is your goal post? please... the onimusha series was so much better than that. since you mentioned nioh, i always thought they were fans of onimusha, cause when you sit back and look at the nioh series it has a lot of stuff that seems to take inspiration from it.

I agree that it sould not have any "soulslike" treatmeant because Onimusha is its own game. My take is i would love if they gave it the Resident Evil 1 treatments, full 3d and all, modern graphics but having all the hallmarks of what made the orginal so good even fixed cameras.

agreed it needs the re2 remake treatment, i would even say shinobi on ps2 style combat -ish
The game looks like how Onimusha warlords plays, minus the fixed camera.

Even if i would prefer fixed cameras, lets hope it is like warlords.
