I'll start.
This seems wildly insensitive.

I disagree, they are even donating half of the proceeds to the victims

So, a game supposing to know the stories of the individuals that died from a natural disaster and presenting itself as a minimalist adventure story isn't offensive?
so they are donatng part of the profits to the victims, right?

Indeed they are, that's why I bought it. But subject matter is the subject of this thread.

I really doubt it's claiming to know the stories of or is speaking for any particular indivuals. It's an overall metaphorical outlook on the concept of loss, particularly a loss in large numbers. (When you consider all the action-packed movies about 'terrists' that are supposedly dedicated to 9/11 victims, I'd say something like this is a nice, sweet, little change of pace from the usual heavy-handed memorials)

True, but the same could be said for other natural disasters, or even heinous human acts. The reason there's no games in the genre is because most humans already feel a sense of empathy and donate money freely, without needing a game to incentives them. But I get where you're coming from.

True enough, I haven't played it yet to be fair, so I'll just have to start it up and see exactly how they represent this memorial. It's true that people already feel empathy towards the subject (or they should at least) but it's very nice to have a different, more peaceful way to look at the whole thing. Either way, I'm very curious to see how these devs get their message across!

Its £1.59 and from what i have read, is the opposite of what you are claiming it to be, reminds me of proteus and thats a good thing but if you dont like it then fine, thats your opinion, however there arent so many different opinions on this subject.

Do you collect 9 million butterflies in this game?

If you are so insulted by it, why did you buy it? Why not simply make a donation to the charity straight-up? I smell a full on and rather tasteless troll.

This game is about as offensive as a damp kitten.

Whoa whoa, let's not jump the gun here. I think he's just getting an inevitable topic out of the way before more people come and take it out of control, I'm sure he's not the only one curious about the sincerity of the developers and that's okay. At least the guy bought and supported the game, that's a lot more than most haters who flame forums can say.
Ericz 20 Nov, 2013 @ 10:32am
I'm about to get this game, so i really can't say if it offensive or not, but it doesn't sounds like that. Unless people think you never can talk about disasters, create art or media about them, because it's offensive. Like removing WTC from every game... to me it's just stupidity and kind of hypocrite.

Well, this thread started out intelligent with the OP raising a valid point, and the first few replies were genteel and well thought out, but ... looks like we hit the bottom pretty quick around the tenth post somewhere. While that is entertaining, it does make me wince at the fact we just can't have smart discussions anymore.

To chime in on the topic itself, I think anything serving as a memorial to human tragedy is worth supporting and can be both tasteless and inspiring all in one go. It just depends on the eyes of the beholder and the beat of their heart.
