FIX Call of Duty 2 not rendering on windows 11 (2025 guide)
hi, welcome to this guide, i recorded a tutorial to explain better what you have to do to fix the game not rendering properly and showing you a white screen.

As a bonus in the video i will also show you how to prevent the game settings to be reset each time you restart the game.

I have a problem where if i open game and start new mission in SP i just get black screen and cant open MP

hmm, you could try to make it work in windows XP compatibility mode, i would also suggest to try disabling a setting in windows, it's called fullscreen optimization, also i have heard that overlays don't work well with this game, so if you have shadowplay or adrenalin or steam overlay disable them cause they may cause issues

If i put windows xp compatibilitiy it wont open game i will try disabling fullscren optimization but i doubt that is problem any more suggestions

the game won't open cause it's missing steam.Dll i suspect, if you navigate into your steam installation folder (usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) you can make a COPY of both Steam.Dll and Steam2.Dll then paste them in the game's folder (same place here the Cod2_SMP.exe IS) you should be able to now start it in compatibility mode

oh, also the full screen optimization is not what i meant, i'm not the greatest at explaining but there's another setting with a similar name found in the windows settings, use windows search bar and type graphic, under the category of System>Screen>Graphics should look something like this

make sure to have the setting turned off for both MP and SP

you mean it does only show the COD logo and then just closes?
or is it different since you changed stuff?
ok the only other thing i can think of is enabling also Direct play, if that also doesn't work i don't know maybe reinstall... i am out of ideas
