i dont think you need that excess space for lots of games to update. i think its just an unreal issue and how it updates

what other game? any game that is of this size requires at least that much, if you're comparing it with smaller games then obviously they wouldn't require as much

Same scenario, different game engine, same SteamPipe and the only reason people are not talking about this more is that most games are smaller than people's lack of free disk space.
