Drop to 30 fps during combat encounters

Whenever I get into a fight with a lot of bandits or lost legion or claptastic enemies my frames will drop from 60 to 30 and stay there until I clear them out. I never used to have this problem in all the years I played until I reinstalled a few days ago. Is there a setting I should turn on or off to rectify this? Physx is already off if that happens to be important. Thanks

Turn vsync off maybe. Have had this problem in other games, not TPS, and that was the solution for those games.

For me, PHYSX on low really helped.. It dropped my FPS in certain areas, but now I play Ultra with constant 60FPS

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3127434981 this is a borderlands 2 guide but the part you want to pay attention to works for borderlands TPS too , check the DXVK section.

DXVK translates Direct X api calls to Vulkan api calls which is much better supported than direct X on newer hardware , usually it is the biggest FPS boost I've found in older games that underpreform on modern PC's.

In some games directX 12 is a good alternative but in borderlands 2 and TPS direct X 12 is pretty poorly implemented (and in other games as well).
