Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Character model mod help needed.
So wanted to change the Toreader character model with two mods, using one pack to change "armour0" and another to change the other three but despite following the guide in the note it doesn't work. For some reason some files don't even exist yet work? Like I want to change "armour0" which is the starting appearance yet the file doesn't exist anywhere.

Idk if any experienced VtMB modders can help, I just want to change four models and that's it nothing else.

I never modded VTMB like this, buti know from other games that files such as this are sometimes packed into other archive files. Not .zip or .rar, but rather what that particular engine uses. Textures and models are inside of that.

You need to usually somehow unpack those files out of the archive file, then replace them. Sometimes it's not necesary to re-pack them, sometimes is. Depends.

But again, never modded VTMB, so idk if this is the process, but if the guide mentions some files that don't exist, then there's a prerequisite step usually that you didn't do yet, and unpacking textures and models might be it.

I can see everything, I have the tools to open files up and such. I tested with a mod that was for Toreador and it worked, I must be doing something wrong but Idk what...

This is part of the instructions of a mod I use that might help you. customPC is the name he used for the folder that contains the 4 new armors for reference to the steps below. You would just have to tweak the steps a bit to match your mod's folder name.

Installation

Extract the contents of the archive into the ''Vampire'' folder. If you are using a mod like Clan Quest or the Unofficial patch, you should extract the archive into their corresponding folders, for example the Clan Quest Mod creates a folder named "CQM" in your installation directory, so this should be the destination folder of the files provided.

How to use these models with every clan

Search for a txt file named "clandoc000". It's located inside your installation directory.

(For example, Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines\CQM\vdata\system for Clan Quest Mod users)

Let's say you want to use these skins for the female Malkavian. Open the clandoc000.txt file and search this line: "Player_Malkavian". The lines below direct which models the game uses for the Malkavian female character

"Clan""Malkavian"
"F_Body0""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor0/Malkavian_Female_Armor_0.mdl"
"F_Body1""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor1/Malk_girl_Armor_1.mdl"
"F_Body2""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor2/Malk_girl_Armor_2.mdl"
"F_Body3""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"
"F_Body4""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"
"F_Body5""models/character/pc/female/malkavian/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"

In order to change the default models to the ones I provide you have to change the above lines into:

"F_Body0""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor0/Malkavian_Female_Armor_0.mdl"
"F_Body1""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor1/Malk_girl_Armor_1.mdl"
"F_Body2""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor2/Malk_girl_Armor_2.mdl"
"F_Body3""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"
"F_Body4""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"
"F_Body5""models/character/pc/female/customPC/armor3/Malk_girl_Armor_3.mdl"

It should work for all the other clans too, just search for the appropriate line inside the clandoc000.txt and change the lines corresponding to the female character to the ones I shared above. For example, for the female Ventrue, search for "Player_Ventrue", for Tremere "Player_Tremere" etc.

Please note that the first time you load an existing save game after making the changes in the clandoc000.txt you may not see the new model, just swap to another armor and you should be ok.

That's what I did and the best I could get was the model but with missing textures, and I'm pretty sure I did rename the textures as well.

If the mod is from Nexus Mods or has a readme with the author's email address, just send them a message directly. I had to do that when I was looking for a Bloodlines Hud mod someone was showing off as part of another mod they created but for some reason they had not released it or took it down, but they still sent me the Hud mod.

Bloodlines SDK helped me. Its kind of a pain in the ass because you have to make sure everything is pathwayed to the right files and folders in a number of different places. The VMT files that go with the TTZs, the .MDLs also need their filepaths edited, as well as pointed at your proper texture files for the armor. Like I said though its kind of a pain, sometimes I still end up with purple checkers and get pissed off. But I have made my own personal character pack for each clan this way, and replaced Heather with Arianna from Clan Quest

Hmm I guess I could try contacting the modders.

Yeah that's too much for me and I'm a bit hopeless with the technical details at times.

I ended up reinstalling the game since I noticed there was the 11.5 Unofficial patch and installed that custom player model mod again and at first, I noticed it did not work as I had only copied those line replacements to the first section for the Malkavian model that I noticed, but doing a search for the word Malkavian in the clandoc000.txt file brought up 2 more sections where I also had to replace those text lines with the updated ones and then the mod was working for me.

You may want to make sure you copied over the info for your mod in each section in case you might have missed one. Also, you should probably post the mod link here as maybe someone else has used it and knows the steps if it has some random fix.

Ah it's fine, it's too much hassle I'll just go with a pack that's meant for the clan I want to play. Already spent a silly amount of time trying to get it to work it's just not worth it.
