I target the Gate and attempt to gravity drive to it, but it's VERY hit and miss whether it works or not.
I've tried pressing Shift + BackSpace to get up to gravity drive speeds. Sometimes this works just fine, other times nothing happens at all. Often when it does get me up to speed, pressing Shift + G to travel to the locked destination (the Gate) sees speed reduced to Zero, before the ships speed starts to creep up again.
One time I did get into Gravity Drive just fine, but then it aborted a long way from the destination. It seems to engage more reliably if I give control of the ship to the Crew and effectively have it auto pilot, but that just gets me killed when I approach the gate as the ship comes to a complete halt just as it enters activation range. With no momentum, even with Boost and Charge I cannot get through the gate before death.
A little bit frustrating!

Now, I'm getting the feeling it's assumed I have more assets at my disposal than I do. I lost a chunk during the first encounter with the MU Mothership - despite me attacking it's "weak" side with my ships in both encounters. I lost more finishing it off in the next sector. Then, everything I had left was wiped out by the Outsiders. Even if I had managed to exit via the gate legitimately - I was seconds too late entering the gate on several attempts - rather than cheat, I'd still have been on my own in the Wardrum, those Outsiders were way too strong for me.
I did try capturing the MU Mothership, but it doesn't work, nor can I capture Outsider vessels. Do I need to do the whole MU Mothership encounters again and try to preserve my assets better? It was a very hard battle as it was, the losses of my guys feeling like a necessary sacrifice, but I'm a little stuck now lol.

If you did - miss the dialog - then you have far less ships than intended... because you should have nearly a full fleet going into the rock gate.
Also - the Wardrum is slow - but you have the charge ability which gets your speed up fast, so combine that for quick run aways - and quick G drive. Could also use withdraw for the boost back - then turn off smart thrust and then turn the ship :) Could also use the Hammer to speed up - in reverse - while throwing down mines and radiation fields heh heh
The g-drive stops when close to objects, or if you are heading off course (to the anchor).
I did catch the dialogue, I also destroyed the satellites, or so I thought, they don't need to be manually targeted do they? I guess I must have missed something as I had no option to reinforced despite destroying everything in the sector. Note: these were the satellites near the gate right, there weren't any others?
Hmm, maybe that's why my G-Drive was temperamental, interestingly, when it fails it's a quick way to zero your speed!
After my little (ahem) cheat, I'm back in The Hub now with all my lovely forces. Just fortifying now, though I'd really better stop for the night.

I'm being asked to send a particular number of ships through a gate. I assembled a fleet with the exact number asked, set them following the lead Phalanx and sent them through - having manually activated the gate with the Wardrum, they'd not go through otherwise. Now, around this time some Outsiders attacked, so I'm not sure if all the ships I'd assigned got through or not, I may be short. The objected does not update the numbers based on how many have traversed the gate, so I'm not sure if I will fail this objective at a later stage or not.
Can someone advise?

When you send in the proper number of ships - you get a "its done" type dialog. If you wait too long without sending the number of ships - you'll get a "its not done" type thing - the mission is optional.
Yeah that mission is a bit annoying because of the mission text not updating - its the only mission in the game like that has such a specific requirement.
I didn't get either message, the objective just disappeared so I wasn't sure which way it'd gone. I had sent extra ships of each class through the gate to be sure I hit the numbers, but I certainly didn't get an "It's done" message. I might reload and try again.
Btw: I was searching for some sort of dialogue summary, does it exist? I just wanted to check the exact conversations I'd had with my crew. I noticed there was no objective marker on the gate I was supposed to send ships through, and wanted to check if I'd missed something.
Anyway, that's me done for the eve, yet another 3am finish...bloody fun game this.

Here's what it looks like for that mission (when successful):
<dialog>
<dialogType attr1="non_player"/>
<characterID attr1="brHub"/>
<content attr1="The gate is again non responsive."/>
</dialog>
<dialog>
<dialogType attr1="non_player"/>
<characterID attr1="wardrumOfficer"/>
<content attr1="Hope their luck is better than ours."/>
</dialog>
and when failed:
<dialog>
<dialogType attr1="non_player"/>
<characterID attr1="brHub"/>
<content attr1="The gate is again non responsive."/>
</dialog>
