100% Achievement Review: A review based on my experience completing all the (available) achievements.

Title: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Summary: Mystery walking game

Personal notes: Decent mystery game where you explore a well crafted small map. Don't remember buying this but I didn't mind my time with it. I have this recommended but I would only get it on a decent sale. Where did Ethan go?

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a walking simulator, meaning it's focus on the story and not gameplay, the gameplay is pretty simple and shallow, there is a small open world that you go through in a linear fashion, and once in a while you find a place where some crime happened and, as a detective, you stop to investigate by clicking on objects on the area to recreate the crime scene and unravel the mystery.

The problem with this game is in it's story, especifically the ending, I don't have a problem with games that focus on story, but if you're gonna do that write a good story, which includes a satisfying ending, the ending of this game is atrotious, one of the worst that I have ever experienced, (I don't know why I can't use spoiler tag here properly, so spoilers ahead just for the end of this paragraph) essentially it was all just a made-up story by the kid in the game everything is a lie created by Ethan, even the main character.

Another problem I had was that when you finish the game you're supposed to be able to fast travel through the map, but for some reason I was unable to, don't know if this was a bug or not, I had to walk through the whole map to get the last achievement, only adding insult to injury.

Outside of that I found the visuals and sound design rather incredible, one of the most beautiful indie games that I have ever played, and the music, ambient sound and voice acting were also phenomenal and I had no issues with the gameplay itself, it's just the story with it's ending that ruined everything, I would not recommend this game to anyone, even if you like story focused games.

Very fun game, controls are easy to handle, puzzels are challenging but very fun, nice storyline. Perfect for a casual saturday
