"Fearless Reclaim" backstory?
What backstory gives Fearless Reclaim? I've gotten it on "Yeah, yeah, be friendly... building inspector" and "This is fascinating. Did you know... group of monkeys?" and I think one more, but not every time. Seems to be extremely rare. It's not even mentioned on the Wiki.

Another instance of fearless reclaim involves someone saying something about crafting or fighting. I think the perk tree went crafter, handyman then fearless reclaim.

There are perk trees?

sort've, sky. perks are drawn from 2 pools- one for the background, the story you see when you click on talk, and another for the class they are(builder, soldier, etc). The class pool draws in order of priority, so you won't see the higher level perks until you've taken enough of the lower level, higher priority perks- fearless reclaim is lowest priority iirc so it's pretty hard to get that way. these perks change if you change classes at a school. one of the backgrounds, the one that talks about knitting and you being cold, will give it to you as their 3rd option if you choose their background perks (always sorted to the top) both times for the first two level ups.

I've been able to get it with the backstory that starts "You! I know what you’ve been up to. You don’t fool me. ... Dr. Agbayani" (This is a St Michael's backstory.) You need a character already with the St. Michael's Dropout perk. (You can request to keep someone you rescue, or you can send your builder to Rufus' conference.) Then change their name until they get this backstory. You have to take either "Light Sleeper" first or "Loner" second, but you can take "Tools Expert" or "Redecorator" instead of "Loner" if you want. Fearless reclaim will be there with the 3rd choice.

OP: Just look through the backstory section of the wiki. There are at LEAST 7 you can use, but you'll probably need to take notes. You can also check out mods and the Steam workshop for the game.

An interesting tidbit is that former children can learn either of the Tier 3 builder perks. So in the mid/late game (when children start growing up) you can very reliably get Fearless Reclaimers to round up those last tiles (or a bunch of Defenses Experts to boost fort defense).

For Fearless Reclaim you need a former child who is Devout (nothing is needed for Defenses Expert). I think the likelihood of the child starting their adult life as devout is higher if they were assigned to a devout caretaker, in any case if you have at least one devout survivor, you can pair them up with the former child for a few missions and they will acquire this perk for free.

Rename the former child until you get this backstory, background #108: “Hi! I’m one of the Gen Z-ers..." ( Devout blocks the 1st pick Skeptic, allowing you to go deeper into the profession perks. )

Pick Artist, then Tough, finally Fearless Reclaim.

If you want Defenses Expert, rather pick Redecorator as your first pick. (Though any combination of Skeptic / Redecorator / Tough will work, you can even pick Redecorator + Artist and you'll see Defenses Expert on your Tier 3 pick). No need to be devout for this path.

You can make another Defenses Expert using backstory 106 if you have access to the Terrible Comic, picking Redecorator plus either Friendly / Artist / Pacifist to see Defenses Expert on your third pick.
