Mod compatibility thread & FAQ [Patch 1.17.1-f4]
Patch 1.17.1-f4 is out.

Latest patch notes

If you do play modded, you will be greeted with a notification when you start the game alerting you that some mods you are subscribed to haven't been created for the current version of the game. Opening the Content Manager will show you which mods were not made for the current version of the game, however, this does not mean the mod is broken. The notification is there to help troubleshoot but to determine which mods are known to be broken and which have been fixed, please see the list on the spreadsheet which can be accessed by clicking List Incompatible Mods.

Modders have been hard at work preparing updates, so please be patient while they apply those to the Workshop and sort out any issues that may not have been found in testing. Check the spreadsheet regularly to see which mods are still needing an update.

If you play with a lot of mods
  • Check the list of broken mods below
  • Don’t overwrite - save your city as a new savegame
  • Wait for mods to update - or help see what mods need an update.
  • Play unmodded while you wait using the -noWorkshop launch option

Will I be able to continue my existing city?
Most likely yes, but it might be a few days depending on what mods you use. Some mods are required for a save to load correctly, and if they need an update, you will have to wait for them before loading your city.

Will ‘insert mod’ be updated?
Most likely yes! Our awesome modding community is working hard to find issues and update mods, but it’s important to remember, they do this as a hobby so it may take a little while. Some updated mods may be released as new mods, in which case make sure to unsubscribe from the old version. Below are some mods expected not to be updated and their replacements. It’s recommended that you switch these as soon as possible, also before the patch goes live.

Which mods are broken?
For the most up-to-date information on which mods are broken, check out the community-maintained spreadsheet:

Which mods do I absolutely need to load my city?
This is not a complete list, but can hopefully give you some idea of what mods to keep an eye on before loading your city.

Network mods
These include any mods that add networks. Anything in the Roads category on Steam is not counted, only those in the Mod category.
  • Extra Train Station Tracks
  • German Roads
  • Metro Overhaul Mod
  • More Train Tracks
  • Network Extensions 2
  • One Way Train Tracks
  • Tram Station Track

Major mods
Mods that have a large impact on how the game works are generally needed for your city to work as it should. These include, but are not limited to:
  • 81 tiles
  • Any Road Outside Connections
  • Custom Zone Mixer
  • Improved Lane Connections v2
  • Lifecycle Rebalanced Revisited
  • More CitizenUnits
  • More PathUnits
  • More Vehicles
  • Nursing Homes with Eldercare
  • Optimised Outside Connections
  • Ploppable RICO
  • Realistic Population (or other mods that affect population numbers)
  • Reversible Tram AI [BETA]
  • Traffic Manager: President Edition
  • Transfer Controller
  • Transfer Manager CE
  • Transport Line Manager

How do I play unmodded temporarily?
While you can’t play your modded city, why not check out the new content without mods? You can easily do this by adding the -noWorkshop launch option to Steam. To do this right-click on the game in your Library, select Properties, and type in -noWorkshop (exactly like that) in the box at the bottom, and close the window to apply. This disables all workshop content.

Just make sure to start a new city and save it as a new file, so you don’t overwrite your existing city.

Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated.

Thank you Avanya, for the update. The good news is I lucked out this time with Real Time being the only mod I had to remove.

Pretty strange, according to Compatibility Report there's just one of the mods that I have with major issues - Unlimited Trees. I've unsubscribed and subscribed to the replacement. But still game won't load. There are windows 'mod caused problem' when I open the game (not loading the recent save but just going to the main menu) and when trying to load the saved game 1) I can already see something's off because Loading Screen Mod is not there 2) the game won't load.
Not sure if I just need to be a bit more patient waiting for the mods to be updated or is there a different cause of the problem?

@CO_Avanya
I tried --noWorkshop as suggested. I get the map loaded. I have to lay down a segment of available road away from the highway. I get no alternate highway road that will allow me to get started in a normal playing sense. I decided to try adding to the map by purchasing another section but there is nothing more to purchase. I'll just wait til I can go back to modded play.

hopefully that's the last such damaging update... then I can wait a few yrs until Skylines II is done with all updates and can consider buying it lol

Maybe you should check the forums a bit more.
Tree anarchy and Prop anarchy were succeeded in April by Tree Control and Prop Control
CompatibilityReport and LoadOrderMod were replaced yesterday by SKYVE
My saved ran without any problems (80+ mods)

I have tired everything and my game still crashes trying to load a new city or an old one. I uninstalled the whole game and disabled all mods. I don't know what else to try at this point. Just simply won't let me play the game with or without mods.

Increase the swap file (файл подкачки) to 15 gigabytes. The map will load.

Well, you need to go into content manager and enable the unlock all mode in there still. Or, you can make it a 2 lane one way road until you have the required population to unlock the highway, and upgrade the road into a highway using the upgrade tool. I just simply enabled unlock all when I started my(temporarily)unmodded city earlier today.

All three mods I use are broken, including move it. Why are mods being outdated when there's a sequel on the way? Just let me have this please
MailiaM 23 May, 2023 @ 8:15pm
Furthermore, I turned off all the mods and all the buildings despawned and now the save file won't open.

You can't play a modded city without the mods enabled. The OP clearly says:

You will have to wait until the modders update their mods to be compatible with the new version of the game before you can play that city again. It usually doesn't take long, and most are pretty good at communicating where they are at with compatibility.

Extra Landscaping Tools interface is under other menu
nighthawk030 24 May, 2023 @ 5:33am
"Extra Landscaping Tools" also no longer works. The controls are stuck at the bottom of the screen behind the menu bar when activated and can't be moved either.

And for "TM:PE" i get an insistent warning when starting the game.

If someone knows a good replacement for these mods, I would be grateful for short information.
