Can anyone play this on a newer generation system build? (found solution)
I've tried all the recommended steps with RTSS, dgVoodoo, and mouse polling among others. The game just runs so fast that even a single keyboard click forward moves to the very end in less than a second and any in game cut scenes start/finish in less than a second.

Changing the game to run on 1 core has no affect and while I have been able to sort of get it to run slower at 30 fps (via RTSS) it just causes stuttering - which means it's just another way it's unplayable.

I even tried VirtualBox with Windows 7 - but then it would crash at launch after all the updates finally applied and/or work but still running fast and worse than outside the VM.

Granted, I've got a newer system build and that's most likely it - but I haven't seen any methods on how to slow down this particular game so I can play it on my machine.

System Specs, B650: 7700X, 7900xtx, 32GB, NVMe drives, and Win 11 22H2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Updated specs since original post: 7800X3D and Win 11 23H2.

Updated specs since last update: nVidia 5080 and Win 11 24H2

Try the version from the GOG store. It contains some fixes, maybe it will work for you.

Ugh - I've even gone to the Discord server for help. Only thing left to try is set BIOS to defaults and see if that could be the issue. *sigh

According to pcgamingwiki you only need to limit frame rate to 60 fps not 30. If you are already using dgVoodoo then there is no need for RSS to do it.

As soon as TopWare gives a license to Ziggurat to work on PC, you can expect it to happen.

I've been getting that since reinstalling the game too.

Since it's not taking up that much room on the hard drive, I never uninstalled it and every once in a while I will try to see if I can play this game.... still nope.

Holy crap! Just figured it out. I switched to an nVidia card and the game plays as one would expect. Makes no sense, but if anyone with an AMD card can make this run - I'd be curious how.

Guys, are you serious? I take it no one reads PC Gaming Wiki? Just put the d3d8.dll file in the game folder. But I would recommend version 1.12, because my mouse stopped working on 1.13, but try both, maybe everything will be fine for you. https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases
