After advice regarding refund due to Epic's bad faith practices - here is the request i submitted
I'm a bit heart broken. It's like visiting an old friend I would check in everyday, that's been through so much with me, only to find the house empty and they've moved out the night before. no goodbye, just gone. Feels weird.

I won't get an Epic account. I don't want one. I don't want to do business with that company.

I have read in certain comments that despite having 2.5+Khrs, and owning the game for 9 years, I can still request a refund. I doubt this will be successful, but I think it's important we do this. Impotent, certainly, but it may be the only thing we can do.

Here is my request:

I have had the game for 9 years and am a dedicated player with over 2.5k hrs. Today I logged in to play and discovered that I needed a separate Epic Games account to play.
Epic says to link accounts you need to press just one button. This is not true. You need to do a full sign up on the website.
I do not wish to have an Epic account. I love my Steam account. But I can no longer play one of my favorite games. I have been advised to request a refund, as I paid for this game before it went to free-to-play.
The truth is that Epic has inserted itself between the relationship I had with Steam and have made a product I purchased with Steam in good faith has been made unusable. I don't know why Epic should profit from this.
Therefore I am requesting reimbursement.
I hope it is possible to take that money from Epic, since they are responsible for this.
I would be more than happy to recieve any funds as Steam store credits - but ONLY Steam, NOT epic.

So sorry this has happened, and that Epic has embarrassed you guys so much.

Thanks for your time!

So, yeah. We all know the outcome, but at least there is something on the record.

Good game every body....good game.....

I'm in a similar boat, though I do have an Epic account and it's not working just like that. the still wants me to "finish setting up an account" which I already have so it's not getting anything new from me, and my accounts ARE linked. I still can't play the game.

Still, how is Epic making money off of something you purchased 9 years ago? They bought Psyonix in 2019. Unless you purchase ♥♥♥♥ in the in-game shop which would be on you 100%. And if you kept doing it since they moved that's still something they profited off of from you, based on your voluntary decisions. Same goes probably for ♥♥♥♥ tons of other people who have been very fine letting them profit from their purchases but NOW draw the line when apparently the problem is a sign up for a free account.

Anyone who kept buying anything and throws a fit now is a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hypocrite.
My last purchase was the DC dlc pack from 2018. Personally I can't refund because I got a key for the game in a giveaway (I think). I would still not try to get a refund because I would feel VERY stupid playing the game for years and then ask for a refund.

After fiddling around with their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I have a solution but I'll post it as a seperate discussion but you won't like it because you'll still need the account even if it is just for a minute.
You might need to try 2-3 times.
The first couple of times is just the AI and that will just look at hours played and thus deny you.

If you keep pushing for refund, then after a few times it will be a human whom looks at it and they will grant you a refund.

Even this is no promisse as i tried it with Helldivers 2 when there was the requirement to have a Sony Account what was optional at 1st.

Hence me trying to convince the Support at least 8 times they continued to refuse a refund for me as during the time the request was made it was not finalized with the forced Sony account. Not have really looked at the game anymore but i think even up to this day Helldivers 2 is still restricted for countries where Sony is not supported to buy the game.

No idea however if it will work for Rocket League due of the EGS requirement as well or if the support stays on the "no chance to get a refund" way. However i think i´m one of the few who won´t request a refund as i have a EGS account that was needed for another game and so far everything works fine and never had any issues. Never had purchased anything from there anyways so they have only my address.

At best it maybe will be a good thing to reduce the amount of smurf accounts and stuff to see more balanced games again.

It depends.
If you are ie. a US citizen there is no help, you will be stuck.

EU citizens have other laws and most likely get a refund.

so how do i request a refund. i am in the same boat and dont want to sign into an epic acount. But i dont see where or how to request the refund. i guess 2,500 hours is enough time sunk into this game, so i can finally leave it to epic players only.

Under the support tap.
Find the game, then request refund
