Tips for the Ryu boss fight?
This fight feels like an incredibly spike in difficulty, I haven't had this much trouble with any of the other bosses, and I just have this feeling that it's the only time the game will be so increidbly difficult. I don't know how many times I've died, but I'm getting a little fed up with hearing the same dialogue over and over again. I'm so close to starting over on easy mode, but having come so far, I don't want to do that.
So, for anyone who has played and beaten this, can ya give me any pointers on how to win this acursed battle?

countering
just press block at the right moment
when enemy is about to strike and some sign appear above his/her head – that is the moment

So, that light that shines around their head before an attack is the moment to block?

that's right
but first, it would be better to get some practice with common enemies

Luck. Like. a lot. Ryu is broken, and I mean BROKEN, your best shot is using XXYY constantly to keep him stunlocked as long as you can. If he gets out of your stunlock, get AWAY from him, hope to god he doesn't kill you in one or two hits while you get some distance, wait for one of his slow wind-up moves and use XXYY again to start the stunlocking conga. Just pray he doesn't decide his wind up was a lie and goes in one of his unstoppable combos while you're still hitting him. This fight is trash, 100% chance, hope you can exploit the glitchy combat systems more that it exploits you.

It most definitely does feel like it's going to be nothing but luck, since Ryu just never stops attacking. Like, ever. Trying to counter him seemed rather inconsitent(Or maybe I'm just utter ♥♥♥♥♥ at it), and when I actually managed to counter him a few times, he just immediately went into blocking afterwards, so I couldn't deal any damage, so it was no more advantagous than what I was already doing, which made the whole act of countering him pointless.

To be honest, I gave up, and am going to restart on easy next week, and see if that makes any difference, though I will keep all these tips in mind, just in case. I enjoy a challenge, but this is just rediculous.

Yeah countering just plain doesn't work most of the time and for the life of me I can't figure out why. It's like the game randomly decides to change the timing for the counter with every attack. Sometimes I even hit RB while Ryu didn't have the little "block now ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" indicator over his head and... countered anyway. Sometimes I'd block at the time the game wants me to and i'd get hit. The exact same attack I could counter and miss absolutely randomly, while pushing RB always at the same time.

tl;dr ♥♥♥♥ countering, it doesn't work

Yup, those were my results too. Just an incredibly broken inconsistant feature. Too bad, because I assume if it worked as intended, it would be more than useful for this fight.

it's a boss fight, of course countering Ryu's attacks won't be easy
but it is the only thing I did there

and I haven't played for a while, that's why the score is so terrible and it tooks me 10 minutes

Be that as it may, countering was rather inconsistant for me, I had the same results as Scrapjack. Even on weaker, slower enemies, I would block when the circle showed on the enemys head, and nothing would happen. I did sucessfully counter Ryu a few times, but as I said, he just started blocking right afterwards, so it was kind of pointless to do. I had better results just smacking the crap outta him, and even then I didn't win.

I now it's not impossible to defeat him, but I also know when I'm beat. After trying several times, I can confirm I don't have the skills, nor the patience, to do it on normal difficulty, so I'm going down to easy.

If you counter him, the fight is relatively straightforward, because countering is OP. If you don't, it is very hard.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned input lag yet. If some people find the prompts accurate and reliable, and others the complete opposite, it's probably that, and those struggling should do the usual things to try to minimise it.
