How on earth did you manage to spend more development time on this remake than was spent on the original yet end up with such a horrible user experience.

* automap clears when you return to town.
* no changing key bindings
* a and d are bound to turn while q and e are bound to sidestep.
* switching character position is needlessly complicated. Press shift to go to camp, click the change party position button, click the part member to move use shift and z to slide left and right. That isn’t me being needlessly obtuse the ui is just that bad.
* party member selection is inconsistent. Sometimes you can click them while sometimes you have to use left and right alt.
* the fact that right alt is even bound on a game that lets you use the mouse.
* the original key bindings are shown on the little window that shows the original wizardry ui. None of these bindings are used.
* key bindings are only shown in game when relevant. But since we have equipment on screen that we can’t pick up, extra bindings on the legacy ui, broken mouse controls and no documentation if you played even the later wizardries you are bound to be curious if you missed something.
* lots of needless menus. The initial town could have been done with one menu instead of the nested menus which increases the chances that you’ll go to the wrong place since party management is handled via 2 menus.
* unnecessary visual flourishes. there is an axe lying on the ground near the first staircase but it’s not really there. Combats take place inside of giants caves instead of the claustrophobic dungeon you are exploring for no real reason and needlessly breaks immersion.
* character creation is clunky and shows options that aren’t clickable with no visual hints.
* the ninja class is not shown at character creation. Many are assuming that’s because you’ll never be able to create one at the start. However, I can see the Samurai despite that not being viable either. Regardless it would be nice to at least have a reference for what the requirements are.
* character portraits don’t automatically shift to your chosen race and gender during character creation.

I cannot even tell you how many times I heard someone say throughout the 1990s or 2000s "why don't they just remake Wizardry [or Might & Magic I or Ultima I, to be fair] with modern graphics and leave everything else alone???"

WELL, "THEY" FINALLY DID EXACTLY THAT, I hope you enjoy what you have been asking for!

(I was never Wizardry's target audience in the first place, given I had absolutely no patience for games like this as a kid, yet I wanted and still kind of want a tattoo of that Wizardry logo, if that gives you an idea of how much reverence my gaming cohort had for this series)

Wow. it is just a massive disappointment at how little this game has been modernised. Visually it is quite well done. But the basic game play mechanics have not been well balanced at all. The mapping doesn't exist (spell to cast for viewing only), evolving to another class completely negates your stat gains (even the classes starting stat is set to basic racial starting stats), enemies appear to enjoy running away from you more then fighting and gold drops are almost nothing. I seem to recall playing this through other means in a better way (possibly console related).

Wizadry, Might and Magic and so many other games that I enjoyed have died over the last 20 years, and probably due to greed and lack of creative thought. Gaming is dead.
