um as someone who doesn't like designing my own base, VT is a cool place to make your own if you like
on another note, that's how the game was supposed to be played, non-linear... you used creativity to accomplish your challenge, and you won't get rewarded for the quest because "you didn't accept it from the trader" lmao
I've reverted back to the old days since I don't want to live in Rekt's world, or modify a random gen. I'll take the free points from the tutorial, cancel Rekt, get on local high ground, and pillar up above the trees to find a better biome.
Walking a day or so Nomad style if needed is worth it when you find a nice city to settle in.
Did the bigger dumb and decided to try and restore Vanity Towers while dealing with the locals. This is where I stopped so I can wire frame and fill the main vertical box section that's missing before I deal with the interior rooms and eventually the wrap-around patios.
From the pic you can see I still have junk equipment for dealing with rads. T2 steel club, a pistol, and no rad remover. Messing around with VT eats up so much time. 2'nd horde was fought in the POI I moved out of. Instead of building a horde fighter I'm just going to rooftop POIs and let the zombos eat them.

That's what I love about 7D2D.
Had no plan to set up shop in Vanity Tower when I created this world, or get nutty and rebuild a huge POI on Warrior in a spicy biome.

Spent Days 22 and 23 riding around on the minibike picking up all the drops I haven't had time for, and a couple treasure maps, and squeezed in some trader quests.
Got rewarded on the morning of Day 23 with the holy grail. Cement mixers I had unlocked, the chem station I bought, and the crucible landed in my lap, even though I had enough loot to buy one should either of my Hughs have it in stock. Having steel set me free.
More progress on VT too. The outer wall is fully restored in concrete for support, and I need to poke around to make sure I have the rest of the vertical support on the interior restored before I start working out the layout for each floor.

Then spent Day 26 working on fixing the rest of the box section, and patios. I still need to fix the glass walls on the left side. They're structural, and I mostly ignored them while restoring the floors and vertical support. Took liberties there as those interiors didn't exist mostly.
Still a lot of work on the rest VT to go, but it'll happen.

After the horde I really needed to mine resources. All of them. Took an extended trip to the desert biome to really stockpile shale, cherry pick the local town, and then back home to get the side of VT done.
Rebuilding all the glass windows and railings floor by floor didn't take as long as I thought. I got smart and copied all the blocks I'd need and kept them in my hotbar.
As I got started doing the copy/pasta for the 4'th floor (copying the patterns from the 3'rd floor), I noticed TFP did a weird with the railing spacing. Left to right looking at the building the bars are in a 4,3,3,3,3 pattern. It bothered me so I tore out I what I did, tore out the 3'rd floor railings, and rebuilt them in a 3,3,4,3,3 pattern.
And the worst of the damage to Vanity Towers is fixed. I still need to complete the rooms that are missing from this side, along with fix the other bits of external damage. Then I can sweep the interior and think about painting and refurnishing it.

And at night pretty much finished restoring the exterior of VT. There's a couple spots here and there I have to repair, but it went quick since I'm so familiar with the block palate.
Playing with the idea of cutting off the lobby and everything from the 3'rd floor down using the patios as a pattern for a solid wall at the base of VT so they can't get in via the lobby of garage.

That got my project to seal the bottom of VT started sooner than I expected. I'm extending a wall down from the balcony, and making it 2 blocks deep. That will wrap around the whole balcony area. I'll also have to seal off the parking garage with a working door, and then address the part of the building around the pool so they don't want to path anywhere under that area.
I've also moved a few workstations to a rooftop across the street since they typically run 24/7 at this point in the game. I may move my mixers there too since they're always running to keep up with this project.

Deleted the front steps, replaced the areas in front of the windows that are snow with concrete, filled in the decorative pools, and deleted the side ramp to the front entrance to get everything level. Also replaced the parking garage door with a manual 7x4 until I get around to powering the building.
I've easily used 1000 concrete blocks converting the base of the tower, let alone the similar number of blocks used to restore VT. Who's dumb idea was this?
I'm pondering using the archway in front of the building as stairs support to a melee/gun horde fighter below the 3'rd floor. I think the POI is too big and they won't path correctly depending on where they're spawning in from.

Day 43 was mining day. Insanity Tower is eating 1000's of blocks of concrete, and Molotov production eats a lot of gas. Headed to the desert to mine stacks of shale and stone, and cherry picked more of the desert town. Where I found my final shotgun book. The Legendary auto shotty will make quick work of the rad bikers and wights.

I thought walling off the pool area of the building would be a pain, but I forgot those planters around that area are just painted concrete. So the outer rim just got extended up a couple blocks to make a wall that wraps the whole thing. I did have to extend that wall along and across the parking garage entrance. I have a little more work to do in a couple spots I know Screamers will gravitate to.
Celebrated by taking on the Athletics Complex quest. POI looks great reworked, been years since I've run it too. I had a lot more Rad Wights and Rad Bikers than I expected. As well I had to pause the quest not once, but twice to deal with Rad Party Girls that love my new auto shotty. Cooked the 300 rounds of 9mm I had, then it was kangaroo Parkour melee and shotty action to finish. Bonus loot was Screamer 5 and 6. Next trader quest for me will be the Ostrich Hotel. Pretty sure I've never seen it.
