Beyond that point, yes, it is pretty much a 4 hour game, and I guess that if game duration is very important to you, this game might not be worth it for you personnally, and that is OK. But considering that it got 98% positive reviews from Steam users, it is clear that there are a lot of people who thought it was worth it.
Also, I do not really understand how you can say that this game a) Is a commercial failure and b) ascribe that to its price.
The inescapeable conclusion becomes: The game is a critical success but a commercial failure due to a silly 2 for 1 scheme (seriously, this is a game, not a shirt) and due to prohibitively high pricing.
However, I am not sure that the game would have sold that much more if it had been cheaper; people have made arguments both ways and I think the nature of a game has just as much or more to do with a person's decision to get it or not.
In any case, I found the game to be totally worth the 15$ on its own, and being able to share it with someone was quite important to me.
It always seems a bit odd to me that 15$ for a 4-ish hour piece of art/entertainment that you permanently own is generally seen as excessive whereas a 2 hour one-time experience going to the movies will probably cost you more than that and it is seen as a reasonnable price.
Well I hope you do get to try out the game when it gets on sale or on a bundle or something; I really liked it, both in its story, which is probably what you heard the most about, but also in the gameplay, which has more depths and challenges than has generally been appreciated.
