Game is "too fast"?
Maybe this issue has been adressed elsewhere but I couldn't find it by searching the forums. I've tried to play Escape Goat but the game just runs really fast for me, on the main menu I can barely select the option I want because if I click once on the arrow keys it just scrolls up and down and when I'm ingame everything just moves so fast... Is there a fix for this? All help is welcome, thank you in advance!

That's strange, I haven't seen that one yet. Can you tell me your OS and hardware specs please?

So I've managed to fix it myself... I've had the same issue with a game called Ether Vapor Remaster and I looked up on it's forums. All I had to do was to go to Nvidia Control Panel and force Vsync on Escape Goat, it now works like a charm :)

Glad it worked out--I might put a vsync option in there at some point.

I'm having this problem too, i have an 144hz monitor and i'm assuming the game updates every time the display redraws. So even if vsync is on in my driver settings (nvidia here) it updates too fast.
If you do end up implementing vsync it would be good to have an option for capping at 60 for us with 120hz+ monitors.

Too bad they removed the Turbo buttons :(

Seriously though, I'd like to see more games in general with both v.sync and user defined fps limiters, it's a good way to reduce heat generation during hot summer days.

Sorry for going off topic.

Like Dr. Nu, I also noticed at 120Hz on Linux it runs at double speed. I switched frame rate to 60Hz, then it runs at the right speed. Your game should check the system clock, not speed up / slow down if the monitor frame rate is different from 60Hz or whatever rate you developed it on! By the way, I'm enjoying the game. Thanks for Linux port.

The game was developed for Xbox 360 in the first place where the max refresh rate is always 60 no matter what, but iirc from my experiences with XNA there's a pretty easy way to limit the FPS to 60.
By the way i only started getting problems when the recent update came out that swapped MonoGame for Microsoft's XNA, so i think MonoGame was limiting the fps anyway.

I also have this problem, although there was no problem until just recently. I also have a 120Hz monitor.

I'll put in a setting to lock the framerate at 60fps. There is a glitch in XNA which causes the game to run at half speed on some high end machines with Aero themes turned on (including my desktop workstation) and unlocking the framerate fixes this. But as usual, fix a bug somewhere and the universe creates a new one elsewhere!

Okay, I just pushed a new beta version (right click, properties, betas, enter password "goatimusmaximus") ... in the settings menu you will see three different modes for timing. Let me know if any of them work for you.

Ok, i opted in to the private beta and tried out the changes. Variable timing is of course same as before, too fast. I tried both fixed timing modes with and without vsync and it works a treat.
Thanks for all the support! I'm looking forward to getting Escape Goat 2 :coolsam:

I tried out the different timings and the only one that speeded up the game was the variable one.

Okay, great to hear that those options at least offer a fix. Thank you for testing, I'll include this in the next version.

I played the game at 144Hz (2.4x speed) until the room with the moving blocks and chainsaws that has no solid platforms. When I switched to 60Hz it felt like slow-motion. You should add an achievement for people who beat the game at 120/144Hz :D
