FIX: Quest 2 Toggle Dashboard controllers showing ingame
Disclaimer: There have been people who managed to find simpler solutions. I suggest only using this guide if non of those worked for you.

As some of you have noticed, when playing your Oculus Rift via your Airlink or Link Cable, whenever you are ingame you will see the controllers overlapping your hands and a message saying "Toggle Dashboard" which obscures part of your vision.

Clicking the button that it directs you to however doesn't toggle any sort of dashboard, but instead shows you what app your Quest is currently running. For example SteamVR.

After having spend a long time looking around for fixes (and non of them working), I finally figured out what the problem is and how to fix it.

***** FIX *****
1. Use either Airlink or your Linkcable to connect to your computer.
2. Launch SteamVR
3. On your desktop a new menu will appear to show you that VR is running. Screenshot[i.imgur.com]
4. Click on the name STEAMVR and a menu will appear. Click on settings
5. In the settings menu click on SHOW OLD BINDING UI Screenshot[i.imgur.com]
6. Click on VR DASHBOARD Screenshot[i.imgur.com]
7. Look for CURRENT BINDING at the top and click on EDIT Screenshot[i.imgur.com]
8. Go to the system actions tab. Screenshot[i.imgur.com]
9: You will now see the binding that's set to your Oculus menu button. Delete this bind by clicking the trashcan icon next to it.
10. Re-bind the command to another button (preferably one you don't use often. Like left joystick button in my case)
11. Don't forget to save your changes.

And that's it! I hope it helped someone.

Do you have your Quest system button and menu buttons swapped by any chance? You can check this by quitting Air Link, opening the Quest settings, and looking under the Accessibility menu.

If you do, can you try disabling that setting and try again to access the dashboard in SteamVR?

Hi there Jeff, I just looked it up and it seems the option to swap buttons has indeed been turned on. I turned it off and restored the native controllers back to normal and this time it does work.

Just for the sake of curiosity, I turned the setting back on and went back into SteamVR. With the setting turned on, both the left and the right menu option shows the Quest app view and neither of them show the steam Dashboard.

There was a lot of confusion on my side and I didn't know what "Toggle Dashboard" meant. I wasn't sure if it was a Steam or a Oculus setting. I seem to be in the very small minority of people who have this, but none of the solutions I found on Reddit or elsewhere fixed it for me.

Is there a fix for this in 2023? There is nothing about swapping buttons in any of the 50 menus I have looked at between oculus and steam VR

Hey Angry Bob, factory reset your Quest 2 and it will fix this issue. When you open SteamVR after that it will pop that message up on your controller once but when you click it it will no longer pop up. I was frustrated when I didnt see any solutions but this fixed it for me.

THANK YOU my brother you are the GOAT thank you so much you deserve love and care I hope you get blessed THANK YOU AGAIN take care and be safe
Under "Device" Settings, under "Controller" settings, there is an option:

"Switch ⬭ and ≡"

See if that toggle is enabled, if so, it may lead to this issue.
thanks
problem. when i save my bindings my controller binding window is just black
