Desktop view not working in Steam VR dashboard
Recently my desktop view from the Steam VR dashboard stopped working for seemingly no reason, and from what I've read on the bug reports is that other people are having the same problem, it was working with the newer UI update but it seems that something made it stop working. I have tried many things to fix it and I dont know what else to try. If anyone here has a solution please let me know, I really hope this gets fixed soon.

Ive been having the same problem as well the view dashboard in steamVR doesnt eve work for me i dont know why is this like a bug? i dont know why its not working it worked before for me even before the update the way it is now it isnt working for some reason

I typically have to close and restart steamvr until it finally, seemingly random, let's me view desktop view.

Go to your Steam > Config folder, and find the steamvr.vrsettings file. Delete this file. I also deleted the steamapps.vrmanifest file in the same folder, but I don't think this makes a difference.

Once you have deleted / renamed the file, just launch SteamVR, and the file should be created new. This then fixed my desktop view.


***PLEASE NOTE, THIS WILL RESET YOUR SETTINGS SUCH AS BACKGROUND IMAGE, PLAY AREA COLOUR AND CHAPERONE SETTINGS. YOU PLAY AREA SIZE AND POSITON SHOULD NOT BE AFFECTED***

No Bueno here! Didn't fixed the problem.

Are you opted into the latest beta (1.14.12)? Can you confirm it does not work on that version? If so, can you provide a system report - either email clintonf -at- valvesoftware.com or post a pastebin.

I'm having this same issue, deleting the suggested config files didn't help :(

Is this related to those issues with the settings on the desktop missing most tabs, and the dashboard failing to show in VR? For those two I've found that things improve significantly if I put the computer offline (cut internet completely, both WiFi and Ethernet cable connection) while launching SteamVR itself (can put Internet back on after it finishes booting up).

You also need to make sure your desktop monitors are on. If they're off, it doesn't work for me.

For anyone reading this, I have since solved this issue by doing a clean reinstall and fiddling with my monitor configuration

Clean reinstall of what? windows? steam vr? steam?
