Should I buy this?
If you enjoy difficult games, have 100 hours of free time, and hate the idea of "fast travel", "quest markers", and "the devs caring about my time on this earth", then boy do I have a game for you.

Do I have to look up a build?
No, in fact it's much better if you don't. You won't know what to do with a veteran player's build, and your build is gonna be garbage no matter what you do, so just embrace it and have fun. If you're playing on easy, your build REALLY isn't your limiting factor. Your equipment is. Learn how the game's items and consumables work and you'll do fine.
If you don't know what character to make then play a gun build and put skill points into stealth.

Difficulty?
It's a hard game. Here's my take on which difficulty to select.
If you don't have much experience playing video games... How did you get here? Are you sure?
Play on easy, even if you've beaten a difficult RPG before. If you have a ton of hours in at least one turn-based RPG, then maybe play on normal.
Only play on hard your first playthrough if you're already highly experienced with grid-based RPG combat.
Also, the experience system you choose doesn't matter much. If you like exploring, choose Oddity. If you like the options of grinding for levels choose Classic.

Its aight

I understand the appeal, I really do. A retro style game, with old school graphics, old school story and experience system.

Unfortunately this game took that way too seriously. Old games had a lot of charm but not everything in them was good. Developers of this game beg to differ.

We have a 1990s UI, animations, inventory system and even the same bugs. This should all be made better. In the 1990s those were bad because of technological constraints… nowadays there is no excuse. The game is just clunky and difficult to look at.

I don’t mind big pixels. I mind that my enemy is not highlighted when behind a cover but in LOS. I mind when inventory icons are super small and all similar. I mind when casually doing shopping is a chore.

This is a niche product for people who liked all of the old school experience. And I mean all. The good and the bad.
