Try running at one and doing the flying kick with Space. If you line it up right you can sometimes kick them into a tree, which is usually a one-hit kill :) Just make sure you're upwind and behind them. And yeah, AFAIK there's no way to sneak up on them slowly; they always smell you before you get close enough to assassinate them.

If you have a knife and you get into combat with a wolf then holster it and just get him on the ground somehow either by countering him or kicking him. Then pull the knife back out and throw it at him while he's on the ground. You have to be extremely lucky in order to hit a wolf with a knife if he's not stunned.

You have to follow up on your attacks immediately before they recover. I had three wolves after me at level 15 (?) and killed two of them with one rabbit kick. It was great!

on insane mode, they are a pain... ;_;

Actually, looking back upon this article, I would like to also ask: wind direction? How are you able to tell wind direction? And Couno Inaek, you are able to counter wolves normally, though they are usually able to to save themselves from counters easily. Also, thank you garaden, Dragonbrad, and robertki for your help on this! It's nice to know a number of people still play this game.
