Especially when it comes to the story. Dear lord does it take itself way too seriously for a group of bunny fellas. Ain't saying it needs MCU quips every five minutes or have them laughing off every kill, but a bit of levity would have been nice.
Instead of a rebel trek through enemy lands followed by a forced slavery competition to the death, could have just had it be about an aspiring monk or fighter traveling through the world to find a martial arts tournament to prove their strength. Not perfect, but hot damn would it have been more palatable than the edge-fest we got here, especially when it delves into topics like genocide or SA.
Not to throw too much flack, lord knows I don't release any of my writing to the public under any names for a reason. Still, why's the cute bunny game gotta be so edgy man?
I get the manly tears stuff where it's like "one of us must make it to kill this specific hombre" but it just felt unnecessary when there was no leverage forcing them to, like a hostage or something.
Only in the easier difficulties have I found jump kicks to be a powerful as you describe.
When it comes to stealth, I honestly think the stealth is unimportant in Overgrowth. I can only think of a max of 5 of the 29 levels that require stealth in Overgrowth's campaign. Stealth is largely ignoble in Therium-2 as you're literally given a choice to go with the rip and tear route. And I honestly can't remember what Lugaru Story levels require stealth, but I can't imagine it's more than 3.
I think that Overgrowth would've been a lot worse if it focused on the arenas more. I have downloaded many mods and have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around in the level editor plenty, and while fighting a ♥♥♥♥ ton of enemies can and has been a lot of fun, I can't say that it's more fun than playing the campaigns. Not only are the campaigns whole ass levels, which allows me to poke and prod the edges to see just how far I can go, which I've spent and good amount of time just exploring the map and testing it's limits. But the levels also have many gameplay styles. There are the parkour sections, there are the largely ignorable stealth sections, and there are the combat sections. The combat is amazing, but I don't think it carries the whole game. (I do agree that weapons need their wack ass hitboxes toned down)
Overgrowth's story however... I think it's fine. I think it's serviceable. I do think the campaigns' stories do get progressively more interesting though. Especially Drika's story. But only with the context of everything you've played before.
