Not necessarily. That's only true when you're walking around. If you're in the hovercraft, it can still be F even if the melee key is reassigned. It's because they're in separate categories in the key bindings (ground controls and hover craft controls).
Basically the game prompt looks for the keybind for Melee (usually F on PC), which is the same keybind as Leave World, instead of the Leave World keybinding. However, if you remap the Melee keybind (mine is the Middle Mouse button), it is no longer the same as the Leave World keybind so it no longer works. You just have to check what your Leave World keybind is (it's at the very bottom of the Options > Key Bindings menu). Really though, the prompt should ask you to press whatever the Leave World keybind is, not Melee.
