Huge base / projects and Survival Mode
just got the game a few days ago and finished the basic stuff, however im stuck with a question, especially as i have a huge project ongoing

is there a way to build faster, specifically in narrow spaces?
also do you make big stations / bases in survival? ive read some people switch to creative for it, but id prefer to do everything in survival

Doing it in "creative" mode is much easier. You can cheat by using admin mode with ALT F10.

Unless you are using a ship with welders, mods are the only other option to build faster. The "nano bot" mod will automatically weld unfinished blocks.

yeah i thought so, i wish we had a way to build faster in survival, especially for large scale projects :D
i dont really wanna cheat that much and dont wanna use mods yet, but i kinda cheated by adding the Voxel Hands to my 9th hotbar while admin tools active, apparently it works in survival as long as you have them in the hotbar
It can't be you doing the welding, you'd need to work out how to construct modular blueprints at scale, basically one huge step up from self-repairing armor and self-constructing corridors and such. So, "specifically in narrow spaces", no, the trick is to produce the narrow spaces with the contents already in.
What kind of welder are you using? The high end welder is like fifty times faster. (some hyperbole may be involved in this number)

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned previously, but you could build the thing in a creative mode save, check it's ok, then make and save a blueprint, and in your survival mode save build and use the projector to put it in place and then get the resources and build from the projection.

Yes. Atleast my first main base. I am completly incapable of not making it too big for its own good, it just ballons into something. And just in survival.
