Space Engineers
Blueprint publishing problem
Basically what the title says. many months ago I decided to save a blueprint of a survival ship that I came to love. Mainly because my world save is getting very old, and loading it is like waking up a pc from the early 90's. But blueprints are local, so to ensure Id always have it on hand I was gonna publish a backup for myself pretty much. Only one problem.

I cant publish blueprints, at all. Last I remember the auto generated thumbnail is too large in file size. But its also impossible to fix since shrinking the file size of the thumbnail is overwritten anyways on trying to publish it again.

At the time I could not find any solutions, not even from dev comments on other very old posts from years ago. So I figured I would try one more time with my own discussion post.

If anyone else has had this problem. How did you fix it? Or, had the devs patched that problem? I dont know if I can call it a bug since last I looked maybe 2-3 other people across the many years of SE have had this.

The only patchwork solution I found was to delve into the game files and make a copy of the blueprint on a external hard drive. Normally that would be more then enough but I have no idea if at a later date a update will make that copy unusable.

Is publish a requirement tho? Make a blueprint and its saved as a local file. I'm currently going through all my blueprints in AppData/Roaming/SpaceEngineers/Blueprints/Local to have the right directories.

Later update making a blueprint unusable is always a problem. My most important ones are pasted into a new game after update and then re-blueprinted.

I had a problem in the past where steam cloud overwrote my space engineers files. deleting most blueprints I made. The ones I made and published that I was not subscribed to were outright erased from the steam workshop entirely. I learned from that the only true way to keep my own blueprints (even through steam cloud errors and hardware failure) is publish it and then subscribe to my own blueprint,
I'm not trying to sound mean here, but..... try avoiding Steam Cloud.
Unless you are frequently swapping computers for some reason, I fail to see a good reason to use Steam Cloud and even as such there are better ways. My local files, under my control, with backups_I_made.
Hi, like ShadedMJ said I can tell the in-game Cloud we can enable from the Options button in main game menu is not made to save at all and gave this kind of problems to members using it.

The best is to keep that Cloud option OFF especially to create Local Bluepritns because only the Local ones can be edited and saved on the Workshop.

That said, all the important to know have been added to the green pin of Bug Report sub forum that I strongly recommend to read all in :
