1200 Kilometers away?
I've returned to Space Engineers 1 to remember how to play so that I would be prepared for Space Engineers 2. So, a bad guy drone sneaks up on me at my lone survivor base and kills me. I respawn in my pod 1200 kilometers away from my base; at 100 meters per second, this would take 3.3 real life hours to return to my base. This seems excessive.....

Not really, you got killed without having a survival kit or med bay you start again.

Hi, a lot SE Players have asked the Devs to make areas where we get constantly attacked, also some players prefer to have time to build before getting attacked so the SE Devs made different starts, different premade worlds and different options for players can have full control.

I recommend to temporary disable encounters and enable later once you are fully equipped.

The new PVE options goes like this :
(from advanced world settings)

- Global Encounter Cap = Enemy Factorum stations in space only.

- Encounter amount = Space and can be setup on creating a new world only.

- Random encounters = Space only

- Enable Drones = Space only.

- Enable planetary encounters = All planets and moons.

- Cargo ship = Adds Cargo ships bond to Trade stations and we can loot those ship in space where some Trade Faction will become enemy if you attack their Cargo ships.

- Economy = That adds Trade stations with contracts we can do for them and gain reputation points, they also have different stores where we can buy and sell.

- The animals count slider and Wolves/Spiders ON/OFF = Wolves on Earth, Spiders on Pertam, Alien and Titan.

I will add :

A setting I like the most is to disable "Auto-Respawn" in advanced world settings, this way I have full control of where I want to respawn because all my Medic Rooms and Survival Kits will be listed in the Respawn screen when my character is killed and I can choose to respawn where I want to.

That is a thing we can't do when "Auto-Respawn" is enabled.

IF not already done, I strongly recommend to read the new Guides added to the Official SE Website, they detailed a lot of the new blocks they added for free :

This isn't about the encounters, it's about the respawn distance from the base....where I have a med station (Lone survivor has one default for the platform). Having to drive for 3 real-life hours to get back to my base seems very excessive. And, this WAS a selective respawn....I chose the pod.

I thought you got killed by enemy and why I recommended to temporary disbale the encounters to be sure your character will not get killed before having a Medic Room and Rescue ship having a Survival KIt.

It's a thing me too have learned the hard way, I was in the "Learning to survive scenario" where my character got killed on Earth planet and I respawned on the first asteroid of the scenario.

I now have Survival KIt on my ship I keep close to me, I even have one with AI blocks set to follow my character so I can respawn close to my dead body to recover my Back Pack inventory.

Edit
Sorry, corrections made.

I can handle the enemies...usually....but respawning so far away.....well, I just restarted the game. It seems very silly to have a respawn so far away that your only option is to start a new game.

My Engineer solution for that was to bring a Survival KIt with me.

I hadn't even been able to build a ship yet.....as a matter of fact, that's how the drone snuck up on me, I was building my first ship. I don't think you can carry a survival kit around in your inventory. Even so, it's all dropped when you're killed and then you respawn 3 hours away. I just don't get the logic in that.

I don't think you're hearing what I'm saying. I'm playing the Lone Survivor scenario. I start with a platform, assembler, med bay, etc. No ships. When I died, I chose the pod to respawn in....and appeared 1200 kilometers (1200 THOUSAND meters) from my base.

Just hit the backspace key then, it is a game feature especially made to kill our character and open the Respawn window to select the Medic room on the platform.

Then you need to remove the pod as a selection alternative. Obviously it's superfluous.

Share your save here, I will load to see what is going on.

I can respawn where I want to in my worlds and will see why you have problems if you give me your save for testing.

-> How to save a world in your Workshop and paste the link here :

1 - Select your save.

2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.

3 - Choose a proper Tag, check Steam upload and click the OK button.

4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

5 - Paste the Workshop item link here (copy URL).

I'm sorry....it's already overwritten :-( I started over this morning. Also, it occurs to me, where, exactly, do you respawn if you choose "Suit"? Is it 1200 kilometers away as well? I had 3 choices, medbay, pod, suit. I chose pod because I was tired of not having a ship and flying around in my suit to every asteroid within 25k to find the resources I needed to build a ship.

So, anyway, this design choice seems odd.
