the Guardian update is finally here and it brings a lot more than you thought. Not just a new character class, weapon type and textures, but much more with Castle Town interiors, potion crafting, House of Adventurers and the third sister to the Nine Sisters Shop!

The waiting is finally over: The last character class is finally here with a brand new weapon type Polearms and enhanced textures and tree sprites to the Great Forest and Pramea. I've already given the details about these things in the update announcement, so it's time to look what else there is to find.


The third sister has finally arrived to the Nine Sisters Shop and she has come to brew you some potions to help you on your adventure, so those monster parts finally have some proper use. There are now more crafting materials to be found and from now on you can collect butterfly and dragonfly wings, flower petals and spring water around the kingdom of Twin Falls. Butterfly and dragonfly wings are caught with agility, but searching bushes for flower petals needs perception. For a spring water you will only need an empty bottle and then find a right spot. There are also lots of new monster parts to be collected too.

The third sister will buy some of the materials, if crafting isn't your thing. From now on also the second sister will buy certain materials related to jewelry crafting. Materials such as butterfly wings and flower petals will reappear after a few days if collected.

With the right materials the third sister can craft potions that will increase damage and defense abilities, increase resistances to certain damage types or even potions that will give a permanent increase to stats.


Castle Town has now opened all the interiors, including the House of Adventurers in the Northern part of the town, just behind the Cathedral. There's not much going on in there yet, but meanwhile the clerk standing behind the desk will buy any monster parts you're willing to sell, if you're ever in need of a quick cash.

Along with the potion crafting and new merchants come some changes to the shops. From now on the merchants are much more selective, so don't try to sell your weapons to the Item Shop. The Magic Shop still buys most armors, but not necessarily all the weapon types. But there are still the Traveling and Shadow Merchants who buy just about anything, except materials.

So those are the biggest surprises. Let's get to the patch notes.

• The first door in the 3rd floor of Onkalo is no longer open by default.
  
• Hole in the Old Tower's 3rd floor's ceiling is now fixed.
  
• The Lost Ring quest can now be completed, at least if new game is started.

That's about it, I guess, though I have a feeling I've forgotten to mention something. Nevertheless, if you haven't tried the game yet, now is an excellent time to climb aboard and see what kind of adventures the Kingdom of Twin Falls is hiding!

the release of the next update for Chronicles of Vaeltaja is getting near and it brings two important features: 'Guardian' character class and enhanced textures to the Great Forest and Pramea. This means that finally all the character classes will be available for hire and all the overworld areas will have similar art style. But that's not all! The update will also include new weapon class 'Polearms', new building interiors for Castle Town, Nine Sisters Shop and Shadow Merchant for Pramea, enemy balancing, improvements and fixes.


The last character class is the master of polearms with some healing abilities. Besides the 'Witch Hunter', the 'Guardian' is the only melee character that can attack from the backrow, which can be useful as he can only wear light armor. Even though Guardian doesn't start with his healing skills, he's nevertheless a viable alternative to Priests as he can learn to cure status effects such as 'crippled', 'burning' and 'hypothermia'.

There will be three different types of 'Polearms': Combat Staves, Spears and Halberts. All of them are 2-handed weapons, so 'Guardian' is not able to wear a shield. But this doesn't leave him defenseless, because 'Polearms' will grant a minor defense bonus and this is where the difference between those three 'Polearm' types comes to play. Combat Staves are not as effective as Spears and Halberts, but they give better defense bonus. Halberts on the other hand are more powerful, but their defense bonus is very low. Spears are balanced to be in between them.


Finally all the overworld areas will have similar art style with new textures and tree sprites, and the impact for the overall atmosphere is very noticeable. Chronicles of Vaeltaja has never looked this good before and the enhanced visuals make the game world feel congruent. This is also a big milestone in terms of development, because from now on focus can be shifted more towards the next areas and story content.


Enemies have gone through lots of balancing and they will be a little bit stronger than before, so the battle skills should have some proper use. There will be more tweaking in the future and possibly bigger enemy mobs for some areas.

There are some changes for certain status effects: 'Crippled' and 'Bleeding' will not automatically heal after a battle, so they have to be cured either during the combat or after. A Healing Kit is enough to cure 'Bleeding', but 'Crippled' needs an Advanced Healing Kit, which can be bought from the Castle Town's Item Shop, Pramea's General Store or the Traveling Merchant Sakari.

After the update Cloaks, Gloves, Amulets/Necklaces and Rings will have their own equipment slots. This is for the sake of balancing, so now a character can't wear four cloaks at the same time.

• Weapons forged by the blacksmith will have better offensive values.
  
• Shadow Moves skill adds a small attack bonus for a short period of time.
  
• Blacksmith's dialog improvements.

• Some small changes to few of the dungeons, doesn't change the experience but should make the dungeon mapping work properly.
  
• Minimap will no longer display exploration %, so it won't spoil the fun of finding the secret areas.

These bugs will be fixed:

• The second last entry for the quest journal doesn't update properly in 'A Grudge for Resurrection' quest.
  
• Wizard's Tower's front door doesn't open after the barrier is removed.
  
• Some levers and buttons can be activated behind a wall.
  
• In some cases 'Lost Ring' quest can't be completed properly.
  
• Halls of Onkalo's 3rd floor's first door is open when the player enters there the first time.
  
• Hole in the Old Tower's 3rd floor's ceiling.

So, if you already haven't, it will be an excellent time to start your journey with this update. If you already have, don't worry, the 'Guardian' can be hired to your party at any time, just like all the other character classes. Made a small change in certain setting that hopefully fixes the bug that may occur in some old saves by messing the day/night cycle. I couldn't reproduce the bug, so I'm not 100% sure this will fix it.

to the re-textured kingdom of Twin Falls! Here it finally is, the update that brings 'Quest Journal', optional dungeon mapping, new optional dungeon, ghosts, better crafting and so much more.

It's true, this update really brings optional dungeon mapping also. If you want to get yourself a 'Magic Map' to help you on your journey, pay a visit to the Royal Cartographer in the Castle's East Wing. He's got one to spare, but he will ask you a favour in return. You can assign the 'Magic Map' in any of the hot keys and use it like any other tool.

Now this is important for those, who play with old saves: If the player icon in the minimap in outside areas is still square, go to the Castle Town North and it should be fixed automatically. If you already are there and it doesn't change, exit the area and come back there. Same with the 'Instant Movement' option menu fix, if it doesn't work properly with old saves.

Quest Journal should update most of the quests in the old saves also, but some quests may need talking to certain npcs to update properly. You should be able to find out who to talk from the quest descriptions.

Though 'Codex' is now added, there's not much lore around yet, but that will change in the coming updates. But there are key bindings and information about character classes, stats and skills.

Good day, traveler!

Finally I can present the news that many have been waiting for some time now. The much desired 'Quest Journal' is finally arriving to Chronicles of Vaeltaja with the new update, but it is just a one part of the 'Ghosts 'n Qualities' update that changes the game's version number to 0.7. There's been some other features that have been requested from time to time and I wanted this update to be the one that finally brings them. But let's start with the 'Quest Journal', which brings couple of features of it's own.

1. 'Quest Journal' can be accessed from the menu or you can use Journal (formerly known as 'Guide's Handbook') from the inventory's 'Books & Scrolls' section and place it into the 'quick bar' to access it. This way you don't have to navigate the menu every time you want to open it.
   
2. There are own categories for available and completed quests and also sub-categories for the main and side quests. Each quest has a name.
   
3. 'Quest Journal' has a 'Quest Tracker' that can be activated by choosing a quest from the Journal. 'Quest Tracker' will appear as a small info box on the right side of the screen and it tells you the current objective(s) of the activated quest. You can turn off the 'Quest Tracker' by deactivating the quest.
   
4. 'Quest Journal' will keep track of every received quests and updates their description and objectives automatically. It also tells who gave the quest and the location where the quest was accepted.
   
5. 'Quest Journal' has a 'Codex' which contains information about key bindings, character classes, stats and skills, but this is just the beginning. With the coming updates I will start to add some lore books that can be found around the kingdom. Those lore books will add 'Codex' entries which will tell more about the kingdom of Twin Falls and it's history. Each found 'Codex' entry will also give some experience points.

Twin Falls' areas and Lake Road both get enhanced textures, but there's more to it than just a simple overhaul. After this update you won't be finding spruces from the Twin Falls Beach (except one) or Twin Falls Forest South. Spruces can still be found from the other areas in Twin Falls. Also the more exotic palm resembling tree can be only found in the Twin Falls Beach and Forest South. This change gives the Twin Falls' areas more distinct look and feel.

Because of the new spruce textures in Twin Falls, Lake Road's textures had to be improved too. There's also some colour changes to the trees, so Lake Road looks better than before. The update will also bring better tree sprites to both, Twin Falls and Lake Road.

These new textures and sprites will affect the battle backgrounds, which have been remade for Twin Falls' areas and Lake Road.

Additional graphical improvements contain the new Temple Guard sprites and new icons for 'Quest Journal' and crafting materials.



Crafting/forging at the Blacksmith's shop, which opens after the player deals with the situation in Pramea, has gone through changes. Instead of just delivering some ore to Blacksmith and choosing an item, crafting now has it's own scene. In it you can see the list of items that can be forged and also the materials needed. This change will allow to improve crafting/forging and add new craftable items more easily in the future. But it doesn't end there: Blacksmith can also repair broken items you may come across while exploring, if you've got the right materials.



A one floor dungeon will be added to somewhere in one of the Twin Falls' areas, that will give some proper use for the 'Eye of an Oracle'. You will actually need the 'Eye of the Oracle' to get into the dungeon in the first place.



With the new dungeon comes a new enemy: Ghost. The scariest thing about ghosts is that you can't normally see them when exploring dungeons, until you encounter one and the battle starts. But fortunately there is a way to make them visible: the 'Eye of an Oracle'. When you turn on the 'Eye of an Oracle', it will make all the ghosts near the player visible, but only for as long as it is turned on. Ghosts can also appear in other places than dungeons, so it might not be a good idea to take a stroll in the cemetery at night.



There's a way to protect yourself from ghosts and it is called 'Spirit Lantern'. Though it can't reveal ghosts like the 'Eye of an Oracle', it can protect the player from their attacks when turned on. If a ghost is encountered while the 'Spirit Lantern' is turned on, the ghost will vanish and a small amount of experience is granted to the party. But 'Spirit Lanterns' are not easy to come by.



The square player icon in the minimap will be replaced with an arrow that will show the direction the party is facing. It's a small change but has a big impact and makes it easier to read the map and to navigate.

• Most NPCs will get names.
  
• Some of the dialog has been improved.
  
• Certain side quests have been tweaked to work better, for example the 'Hermit Quest', which can be found in the Marsh of the Condemned, is re-designed and is called 'A Grudge For Resurrection'.
  
• 'Missing Scout' quest has now a proper ending, or at least the simplest solution has. There are couple of quests like this that will be extended in the future updates, but most of the side quests that can be found are already finished.
  
• 'Instant Movement' has been re-designed and it finally works properly in the settings menu.
  
• Day/night cycle has more variety in the lighting, for example there's now evening period before the day turns into night.
